Steam Deck

Don't get a Steamdeck, customer service sucks
Encountered broken left trigger, also had a rattling of something inside the Steamdeck that WASN'T a component type rattling. Something came loose and was bouncing around inside the case and at Valve support's request ran tests, provided information, even factory reset the thing, and now they're asking me to reimage the thing... but guess what. I need a USB-C dock for that... that didn't come with the Steamdeck. I need to provide my own.

So, a re-imaging of the OS is supposed to fix the fact that SOMETHING inside the deck broke and was bouncing around in the case?!?? Plus my Steam quick-access keys work, but act like other keys now...? A factory reset didn't fix it... but a reimaging will?

This is getting absurd. I didn't pay over 700 bucks to get crap customer service.

why the ♥♥♥♥ do you need a dock to reimage the deck????
DoKo_O Jan 4, 2024 @ 12:50am
yeah was wondering the same lol, no usb c dock needed for that...

it is odd though that you have to trouble shoot these things when theres a physical issue that can be heard rather than a software issue

Very sad for you that you're having this experience. Not sure how that translates into your recommendation that no one should buy a Deck..... my Steamdeck is one of the BEST purchases I've ever made! Again super sorry for you and really hope you eventually get a positive outcome and experience.

Same, I have good experience with such a masterpiece device.

The trigger buttons are probably the weakest part of the LCD deck. I would not be surprise the trigger wore down. The worst parts is those buttons are connected to the daughter boards and Valve is not selling those boards. They moved the buttons on the OLED deck, because I think designers realize their mistake.

I would recommend flashing the recovery OS onto the SD card. The USB drives are pretty slow. i hope they fix it in Deck 2.

Thank you for the warning, but honestly, I don't give a damn. I never buy anything based on customer service because I never need customer service for what I buy.

I know how to read, I'm ingenious, curious, and certainly don't need to know how bad you are and should move on to something else :D:

Yeah, got my 512 with a faulty motherboard, they sent me a "new" one 2 weeks later that the top shell overlaps the bottom. Only noticed because it gave me a papercut. The top seam came with it separated by 3 mm to 4 mm, snapped it back but there's a clear bow in the seam with a loose gap that moves. They've been giving me the runaround for going on another two weeks.

Steams Help Desk are the good guys.
Every time I have contacted them, they have always gone the extra distance for me.

I do agree though, after you have run out of commands to input in Linux, and the device still ain’t right, the reflash option comes up way to quick.

Kudos for not going on a crazy rant, and at least putting your opinion out there in a reasonable way, as the trolls on this site thrive of others misfortune.

Hope it gets fixed either way
Peace :cleanfloppy:

How many People are starting to Agree with me??
The STEAM Deck was a Scam, a giant Scam from the Beginning??

#1.) Valve Customer Service, it's their job to fix anything wrong
with your STEAM Deck upon you bring it back to them for Repairs...

There is a reason, you are not fixing it yourself...

If you do, this voids your Warenty on the STEAM Deck,
Which if that happens? You can't get anything repaired,
& all that money must be paid out of pocket from now on...

The purpose of a Warenty is to prevent that & protect you of a case like this...

Also, I refused to buy even 1 STEAM Deck since Pre-Orders & Launch...

I hate having to sit here & watch People
buy this thing & regret it over & over & over again,
& not being able to do anything about it,
& then sit here, & watch someone else
go through the same thing, & yet again,
not be able to do anything about it...

But here we are, & that is what is happening...

If you love the STEAM Deck, great??
-- No One Is Gonna Stop You, Go Buy 3 More Of Them...

But if you hate the STEAM Deck??
-- I suggest don't buy one, & don't let the Influence drive you to buy one either, oO

That is all I have to say...

People hate it so much that over 43% of Linux player base on Steam is using it and with the Linux userbase being at around 1.8% it means that almost 1 every 100 systems on that took a Hardware survey is a Deck (not counting all the people who preferred to install Windows on it)
Kinda impressive to be a Scam :steamfacepalm:

The trigger should definitely not be going bad after 6 days of use on the first deck. And the replacement deck I got had a faulty/sticking trigger right out of the box. My recommendation stands. Thank you for those seeing this post for what it is. Definitely not a rant, just disappointed with Valve. That's all.

Not surprised at all. Valve is a crap company and they've been coasting on their old reputation for years. It's only natural they'd continue to be incompetent in new ventures.

I did an RMA with valve recently and I can assure you this post is stupid bait and you fell for it.
