Installing Quicktime on Steam Deck
I want to install the latest version of quicktime as I'm planning on attempting to run Prince of Persia 3D on deck: it requires Quicktime for the FMV movies and the game itself I can attempt to run via Proton. Where can I find a safe download & install for Quicktime on the Steam Deck version of Linux?

things do not work the way you think they do. the games run inside a fake windows environment, that's where you need to install QuickTime into. are you trying to run the game directly they steam, or with something like Lutris or Bottles?

If the default Proton does not work then I would first try Proton-GE. If you still have no video then protontricks can be used.

When I look at this installer file at the Lutris site I however do not see any special winetricks being installed.

Directly from gaming mode with Proton enabled to allow it to work as it's emulated Windows as you say. Other non Linux games I have on steam and non steam work that way.

Is there a way to install the latest Quicktime itself, not the game? I can install the game by using this version in the video description I found which is how I got my PC copy working again on windows 11 when (after some fiddling) it worked fine on Windows 10: https://youtu.be/dMI6lAnQTnw

It's just QuickTime I need so the movies will work and the latest quicktime as the one that comes with the game causes a lot of glitchy sound.

Well, winetricks/protontricks have quicktime72 and quicktime76 in their listings. I have not tested this though.

OK then, if I install the game via Lutris and then replace the files with the updated ones in that video, I should be able to run it without a CD. Does the Lutris script install quicktime7 too or is there a separate script for that?

No, I don't see any mention of this winetrick being installed. So I would first install it via Lutris, then test this installation, then overwrite the files to disable the CD requirement and when that works, start winetricks from the wine menu in Lutris (its next to the play button), select the default prefix and choose add dll/component. The list should contain quicktime.

I've downloaded this abandonware game, and I don't think the rip version has the videos. The lutris site mentions that CD2 should be inserted to play. Maybe the videos are on CD2?

Maybe. I have a no CD crack for my one that included the videos so I maybe I copied them off the disk. I can move those versions across to see. I'll try your advice here and see if that works.

Thanks in advance. 👍

I'd go with Bottles instead of Lutris but both should do the job. Installing the quicktime76 from winetricks or bottles dependencies menu is the correct solution, you will be gaming in no time at all.
