Steam Deck

Steam Deck

How do you wake up a steam deck connected to the Steam Dock when it's in sleep mode?
I turned on my tv, and the input was already set to the Steam Deck but it said no signal. I tried pressing buttons, moving the mouse attached to it and nothing worked. I actually had to disconnect the power cable from the Dock and put it back in for my tv to finally register the signal. Is there a better way? I don't have to do this for my Switch.

The OLED model (with a different WiFi/Bluetooth chip) has the ability to wake from sleep with a Bluetooth controller. Valve are hoping to bring the same to the older model, but they don't know for sure that it's possible yet. AFAIK, none of the models support HDMI-CEC to be able to have a TV wake them up, but I don't know if that's a hardware limitation or something that's just not been made to work yet.

Pressing the power button usually works for me

Wireless usb mouse & keyboard works here with official Dock.

Weird, I tried both pressing the power button (does nothing, the deck is black and the tv has no signal) and pressing the mouse buttons or moving it does nothing. Removing the power cable and putting it back in is the only thing that works so far.

I updated the dock's firmware too.

I am unfortunately having instances in upstream kernel not waking up. Oddly enough, it needs to go to a deeper sleep to not wake up. I wonder if its comparable because I know Valve disables s2idle.

This system is running a normal Opensuse tumbleweed in the mainline kernel. Wake up isn't guarantee for s3 sleep. I have been procrastinate reporting to opensuse.

This system is running gnome.

The unwakable instance happens when the system attempts suspend on the second time for some reason. Turn off the TV before the machine suspends creates a better wake up behavior. I have not tried any other permutations other sleep with TV on or TV off.

Step to reproduce
1. Run Opensuse tumbleed - gnome - I didn't try KDE or Steam OS yet
2. Plug in the dock
3. Plug in the TV - I have UM7300AUE.
4. Let the deck sleep once. You will notice the TV will start playing sound from the cable box, but the image will not match
5. Wait even longer and the deck will wake up by itself to notify you it will suspend.
6. The deck will suspend by itself.

Description:
On the second wake up, the errors will produce by below. I practically had to give up and hold the power button. For some reason, turning off the TV before the deck sleeps migrates the issue. Reproducing bugs and grabbing logs are so time consuming sometimes.

Desired Result:
The deck wakes up.

Is there any update to bringing this to the first generation SD? I really would like this feature!

I use the Steam Controller (never went back after trying it when they first came out). I realize I'm kind of an anachronism but I really like the Steam Controller with its integrated touch pads! Right pad works great for mouse control.

With a docked Deck, when you go to the Power menu and select Sleep the Deck goes to sleep and the Steam Controller shuts itself off.

Then, to wake up: you just hit the Stream Controller's Power button and it switches the Controller on and wakes the Deck as well.

Works great!

I don't want to buy another controller. I just haven't used the dock at all since I got it. I basically just use it as a charging station at this point. Very much a waste of money. Works much worse than the Switch dock, and was more expensive. I love my steam deck oled, but the dock sucks.

The steam controller is no longer for sale

True, but they're worth seeking out, on Eeeekbay, for example...

That's your opinion...
