How can I manage files?
Are files just inaccessible from the deck?

its a pain in the ass, you need to find the folder number for each individual game

Steam has a whole desktop environment you can access. Simply go to power options by pressing the Steam button and select "Switch to desktop." After a second or two, you'll be in the desktop environment and you should be able to fine the Dolphin file manager (not to be confused with the emulator of the same name.) Hope this helps! ^w^

Ok, but where are the saves to my games kept?

Depends entirely on the game.

Yep.
Easiest way I've found is open Steam in desktop mode, right click an installed game and pick "Browse local files", which will open a Dolphin file browser window (KDE's version of File Explorer) already on the game's install folder. This will also give you the game's Steam ID, since each install is compartmentalized within a folder named after that ID.

Then it's just a matter of doing a Google search. "Whatever Game save file location". It's often (but not always) in the "My Documents" folder, so you'll navigate to /Steamidnumber/users/steamuser/Documents/whatever...

Download protontricks when in desktop mode, it will allow you to see the corresponding folder numbers of most of the games, if not all, installed on the deck. That's the only draw back of Linux vs windows I've noticed....it's a PITA to find the actual folder of the game due to a lack of a name on the folders like in windows.

this site can be useful to find atypical locations for save files, even in linux.

consider that if you install a game using proton rather than a "native version", the location of the files will depend in which directories-folders were used, and will use the same name as in windows.

for games with "native installer" (ie their product page list linux), the save files will be likely located under a hidden folder (folders with a dot "."; ie ".hidden"); you can still use the names used in windows as reference.

also, something that i like a lot of dolphin file manager is the amount of options you can change to your own taste. one common, but probably not used as much by new users, is the "filter" option. you can add a button in the toolbar area to easily turn it on or off: when you start a search, if you write another word in the "filter" box ("filter bar"), you will more easily and faster find any file. maybe this mini guide could help to become familiar with most basic features in dolphin.

Just wanted to thank you for posting that site! Very helpful. The save files were still buried a few levels deeper but getting the path and game ID got me on the right track.
