Add Game folders from Network location to the Steam Deck
Hello,

I've had my Steam Deck since August 2022 and there's something I've started doing.

On my Windows 11 PC, I've added a network folder under Steam > Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folder and I've downloaded my entire Steam Library to it. It's only taken about 20 TB so I'm ok with that and it works fine for the most part in Windows and I'm ok with the additional access time and latency.

Going back to my Steam Deck, rebooting into Desktop Mode, I have access to my 2 Servers, one a QNAP and one a Synology through SMB and I can access them through the Locations section when I open Dolphin.

The 2x Servers aren't mounted as drives or anything, like the SD card shows up at the bottom of Dolphin or anything, I've never figured out how to go about that.

However, I cannot find any resources online on how to add a Network Location under Steam > Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folder in Desktop mode. The Browse option only provides locations on the Local M.2 or the SD Card.

Has anyone successfully done this and how would I go about doing the same as I've done in Windows?

Thank you all for taking the time to help and have a wonderful Day/Evening/Night :)

You probably have to create a mount point to a directory on the deck. I found this guide which explains the process. Hopefully this covers what you want to accomplish.

You might need to set up something like an NFS or SMB mount. I'm not sure if you can do that in SteamOS out of the box. (although you can browse SMB shares, so I can only assume you can mount them, too).

My educated guess would be to use NFS/CIFS (though NFS would be better, especially if the other end is a *nix friendly with attributes support FS), and use the mount point within Steam as a Library location option

Thank you

I'm not great with linux but I've been learning alot. Trouble with me is, I can follow instructions, but when it comes to adapting instructions to my environment, it scares me a bit.

This appears to have mounted my QNAP network location to my Steam Deck. I'm now able to add it in the settings as a location with all of my games across the network.

Let's see how good or bad this works!

Thanks to all :)
