Please add a automatic game update, setting to the Steam settings.

I don’t like having to figure out which of my games have an update available. I would like a setting to automatically update my games when the update comes out.

I am surprised no one else would like this option. I hate having to look through all my games on my deck to see which ones have an update and then press the update button. Would be so much better to have an option to apply any game updates automatically.

You can automatically update your games. In each game you can select by clicking on properties the option to keep the game updated, you can also select the option to download in the background while you play.

Steam still "schedules" the updates, usually 5-6 days out unless you go to play one of the games then it downloads and applied before launching.

You should post in the "Feature Request" section. That's where Valve picks up ideas and they have implemented several of them that have been posted there:

Right, I misunderstood the OP. It would be a good option to upgrade directly without scheduling.

It's not going to happen. Steam downloads are a significant chunk of Internet traffic. The scheduling system smoothes out the load so that Valve's servers don't melt, while still giving players downloads for the game that they actually want to play right now. Those that are OCD about having all games at the very latest version even when they aren't playing them can go to the Downloads page and plonk everything in the Scheduled box into the Up Next box.

I never thought about it. I actually have automatic updates disabled to the extent that's possible because I have PTSD from game-breaking updates and developers who remove content from their games, intentionally or not. So I like to check patch notes and comments before updating
