Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Dual Sense stopped working with SDL API two days ago - possibly due to a Steam update?
I've confirmed this with one other person on the Cemu discord so it's not just me - anyone else seeing this?

I was playing on my Steam Deck in the morning and it was fine. After a break for lunch and a reboot of the Deck (because it had trouble waking up for some reason), the gyro on my Dual Sense controller stopped working in emulated games using the SDL API for full compatibility.

I checked all the config and everything seemed fine, so I booted to Desktop to check the settings.

Long story short, emulation works normally when run straight from the desktop. But if I launch from Steam, in desktop or game mode, it doesn't detect the Dual Sense controller.

Sticking with the previously working profile/config, emulators won't "connect" or detect the Dual Sense, even though it's connected via BT and it works in the Steam menus.

If I try re-adding the controller, when I select SDL, the only controller detected is "Xbox 360", or "Steam Virtual Gamepad", depending on the emulator - these are the deck itself.

I updated all my emulators and profiles, redownloaded fresh versions, and even tried switching to the Steam beta channel - nothing helps.

I am still able to play normally by just running emulators from the desktop, but that's a real hassle when I'm hooked up to my TV and playing on the big screen - there are so many extra steps compared to just playing in Game Mode like usual.

Suggestions/thoughts?

Just want to re-iterate this issue.
I reported it over a week ago here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1675200/discussions/1/5570437336435502346/

Just like you the DualSense gyro ONLY works in Desktop Mode, but is completely unresponsive in Gaming Mode.

Why is this taking so long to fix, Valve? It's a key feature of Steam Input.

I don't think Valve knows they broke it.

The weird thing is that the gyro does "work" inside Steam in both game and desktop mode if you go into "controller > calibration & advanced settings > gyro calibration" - all axis are correctly detected. But once you get into emulators, it's not detected as a controller with a gyro, in either mode.

You might get more visibility for the issue with Valve developers by filing a bug report on the Steam for Linux github.

Remember to use the word "regression," since it worked before and now doesn't.

Thanks - I hadn't thought of that. I've opened Issue 9739 - if anyone wants to chime in:

I'm having the same issue. Everything but the gyro works. If I forget the dualsense in the bluetooth section, then re-pair it to the deck, it will work until the deck is shut down and restarted. then the gyro doesn't work again. I noticed this around June.
