Anyone else struggle to play first person games on SD?
I always get a headache trying to play first person games on the SD. Third person games like Resident Evil 4, Warframe, Remnant, etc. are fine, but first person gives me a headache.

Kinda sucks, because I'd love to have Borderlands 2 in portable form.

I've been playing Doom 2016 on the Deck recently, and it's been great.

I always have to turn off depth of field and motion blur in games that have them. Otherwise I get nauseous.

FPS gaming isn't really ideal on the deck. It's very difficult for me to aim with the joystick, so I have to settle on using the right trackpad as a mouse (with sensitivity lowered to 95-100%). It's still not as comfortable as using a regular mouse & keyboard though.

I struggle a bit to play ANY first person shooter with a controller. I like the idea of the gyro aim for smaller adjustments, but I just can't get used to it. I was surprised to see how good the controller implementation is for the Quake II re-release, but I do still prefer to use a mouse there.

I fare a bit better with slower paced first person titles. Particularly RPGs like Skyrim.

Gyro aiming is way better than joystick aiming or trackpad aiming.

Play some Portal/Portal 2 with gyro to get the hang of it. Timing (mostly) isn't critical and things (mostly) aren't shooting at you, so it's a relaxed learning environment. Big movements on stick/trackpad, and then just point the Deck at where you want to shoot.

It's likely due to the screen size and the FOV that is set in the game. Try lowering the FOV if the game has a setting for it down to something like 80.

I have a similar issue with playing Rocket League on the Steam Deck where it causes problems with my depth perception as well as gives me a bit of a headache. I had to completely change what my normal camera settings were to get it to be somewhat reasonably playable for casual mode and free play.

Also, concur with the above regarding setting up Joystick+Gyro movement and aiming for First Person Shooters. There are some great videos regarding the Steam Controller from GamerMuscle which show how the concepts work with Steam Input. Things are a bit different with the Steam Deck but the various guides on the Steam Controller for this should still help in getting a similar configuration setup on Steam Deck.

Combining gyro aim for fine rate of movement with joystick aim for coarse rate of movement works extremely well in FPS games.

use the track pad for mouse movements. I finished CoD4 not long ago on the thing using it and it was so smooth.

Ha-ha, yup. For the life of me, I just can't figure out how to move camera AND use ABXY buttons at the same time. My hands are not wired for that, I just don't have enough thumbs!

It's a little better with trackpad as a mouse, but still a challenge.

There are buttons on the back of the Deck.

They are too tight to press/spam reliably, and my fingers are too short to comfortably reach them (very small hands, oh woe is me :milsonsad:)

My seven-year-old doesn't have any trouble reaching them. You press them upwards towards the screen; if you're finding them hard to press, you're probably pressing the wrong part.
