It isn't supposed to replace a desktop or even a gaming laptop, it's supposed to supplement those devices.
The Deck itself also doesn't take long to charge if you are using the charger that came with it. I can charge mine within about an hour, 2 hours max.
I said i didnt research it, and if its meant to supplement, i dont think it does, its clearly a worse option to everything. And i use the charger it came with, its slow, way more than an hour or 2 but i havent timed it.
I mean, you're sacrificing power for portability and ease of use.
I don't know what you were expecting. It's does a lot of things greatly. From small indie games to emulation. I've been using it for a big backlog of games that don't feel good sitting at a computer to play.
At first I also pre-ordered and got accepted, but as time went past I became less and less sure about the whole thing. Valve made it blatantly clear that not every game was going to run on the Deck and I immediately recognized plenty of possible issues from all that.
In the end I didn't go through with the purchase because of specific games and my concerns about the battery life. I had the PSP in mind when I pre-ordered but this is a different beast all together.
As for playing... GeForce NOW also allows you play a large collection of games from your Steam library by simply using your browser. I played several games while on the road which I wouldn't even be able to actually install on my low budget laptop.
I stopped paying attention to the Deck because of it.
The big advantage of this over a gaming laptop is portability. Granted, the Steam Deck is not exactly the pinnacle of portability itself, but is significantly more portable than a gaming laptop nonetheless.
Obviously the screen cannot compare with a monitor, what did you expect? Charge-wise, it is on par with gaming laptops that are run off the plug.
Given the joystick nature of the game, some games are going to play better than others. Some games are really made for mouse and keyboard. This is not a Steam Deck issue.
Heating has not been a big issue for me, and is definitely much better than any laptop I used to play games before, gaming or not.
Like were you expecting something like this Nintendo Switch 'extender' monstrosity?
Sidenote, it shouldn’t be getting hot enough for you to feel it. In general the internals will run hotter than a PC - it’s safe and the hardware can easily handle it.
Now, if it’s actually burning you, that’s a different matter and you need to post that puppy back to Valve. Do not sell it.
Dawid is hilarious.
Screen's small, most PC game UI aren't meant to be shrunk down on such a scale. And many MMO games are very poorly optimized for console based things unless it's solely built for console.
It's...common sense really.

I love it how we can make a mistake, and teach others, and in so doing keep a lot of waste electronics out of landfill. I'm lucky enough to have a patience gene, and I heard a good friend say they hated the thing just as I was about to order one, saved the planet just in time we did.
They fundamentally misunderstand what the Steam Deck is and what it is for.
It's like, they buy a device because they are under the assumption that it must be an excellent espresso maker. They're really looking forward to all the wonderful espresso they'll be able to make once they have it. Finally, their device arrives. They pull their brand new waffle maker out of it's box and immediately they have a bad experience. It heats up well enough but the ground espresso beans just burn onto it's surface. There doesn't seem to be any place to put the water, so they just dump it onto the beans, which makes a huge mess. The resulting somewhat coffee-like liquid is now all over the table, so they mop it up with a paper towel and squeeze it into a mug. They take a sip, and it's the worst espresso they have ever tried in their life. Clearly anyone who actually likes this product is out of their mind. 0/10 stars.
Yes. This is the problem. You made an assumption without confirming it, then dropped hundreds of dollars into that assumption. Now you're disappointed.
I would say it's not your fault, but it's kind of a little your fault. The marketing might have something to do with it too though. "It's a PC!" they said. If someone buys it to play Fortnite because "It's a PC!", they're going to end up disappointed too.
