Official dock vs 3rd party
Is there any difference between the official Steam Deck dock and 3rd party options?

The Valve Dock gets firmware updates directly from the Deck. It comes with a USB charger for the Dock. It has 3 USB ports, one HDMI, and one Display port. It can handle variable refresh rates. It also has an Ethernet port.

yeah I'm on the fence about buying a dock. The official Valve dock is $90 but some 3rd party ones are a lot cheaper. I might have to watch some youtube videos.

There are some differences in terms of things like which types of display outputs and how many ports it has, but they generally all work. Check their specs and pick whichever is the cheapest one that meets your needs.

it depends on what you needed or wanted for, I have the Steam Dock and a Jsaux, both are great but I personally prefer the steam dock even at almost 3 times the price of the Jsaux.

^ this. even going as far as using the WiiU basic stand and a just USB hub would work.

the official dock only costs "extra" because of the spare power brick. it should preform the same as any other dock, plus it gets updates from steam itself.
