That being said, there will still continue to be changes/enhancements to Proton but that won't fix every problem with older titles. Some titles will never work unless the developers themselves make changes (which is likely not to happen if the title is really old).
Exactly this. Valve is actively developing Proton to be as compatible with running the games as is possible. That said they have no access to the game code it's self to make sure the game can run as is needed in it's specific case.
I'll just fade into dust over here...
