can steam deck be used as a tablet ?

was just wondering if steam deck be used as a tablet like in desktop mode say listen to music ( like you can do on the phone in stand by mode i.e turning off the display etc) ?

I would like to know this too. I downloaded a google chrome app, but have yet to figure out what it does.....if it links you to the internet, then I would expect you could use it as a tablet, to at least surf, check email and maybe more.

May I ask how to get into desktop mode? I got so consumed with installing games to try it out that I never once thought to read the manual...lol

Long press on the power button, and then pick desktop mode, or the power section of the Steam menu, and then pick desktop mode. Log out or use the shortcut on the desktop to get back to gaming mode.

You can use the Deck for tablet-like use cases. It comes with a touch screen and you can even launch your music player/browser from game mode, no need to "shell out" to desktop mode.
However, when it's in sleep mode, it's sleeping. No music playing in sleep mode.

So you don’t have to keep pressing your power button you can alternatively press B to get to the side menu options and go to power and select desktop mode.

After having a power button fail on my first deck I avoid pressing that power button as much as possible now

Press the steam button under left trackpad, go to power switch to desktop mode

Just like Windows, there are programs that can play music files. For some of the streaming music services, you'll likely have to use them via a browser. It will not be the best experience, but it can be done.

If you have a stand and a bt mouse/keyboard combo you can easily in desktop mode.
