Microsoft X-Box 360 pad 0 not working for desktop apps after update
Microsoft X-Box 360 pad 0 (/dev/input/js0) not working for desktop apps after update

Even trying to calibrate it in desktop mode has not worked, everything running in gaming mode works fine of course ;P I was using Simple64 with default install settings, with Microsoft X-Box 360 pad 0 as input controller for desktop mode Steam OS, before the last update it seemed to be fine! I could even calibrate it in desktop mode, in "Quick settings" under "Hardware", Then "Input Devices" and Then under Game Controller. It contains a menu with info regarding raw input from device. Nothing changes on this screen anymore, I can now confirm it must have been update. I today TOTALLY factory reset my device loosing all my games and settings to verify this. It still does not work. Very upsetting because I did not have to Factory Reset. A simple net search told me this would not be so Simple... :P

As for more information, I was using Simple64 installed off the discover store in desktop mode to play Nintendo64 games, Maddening.... it was working like a charm and the default joysticks work amazing for older games!!! better then my cheap n64 KNOCK off controller ;) After last update, the game started just quitting on pressing start, then someone on the net told me it was reverting to desktop mode keyboard and mouse because it could not see the gamepad in desktop mode. We tried some stuff, but still to no avail could get it to see the raw data from the controller in steam deck built in to show up for "Microsoft X-Box 360 pad 0" Any help would be amazing, the 6 hours of n64 games on the steam deck before the last update, has giving me a piece of my childhood back in my hands any where :) any help can and will most likely be worshiped and I will build a shrine to u in my room..... lolz ok maybe not the last two conditions... lol Thanks everyone and have a great day! I hope no one else has the same issue!!! This is def maddening because its the best version of what I have seen in a long time for what I want out of it.

As a last note, The rest of the steam deck works like a charm, I have not noticed anything other then this controller input raw data not showing up in desktop mode but detected the device itself is there, someone also mentioned running through steam, I also tried and it did not work. :(

Peace everyone and much love!

didnt understand much of what u said, but earlier today update from user had deck control issues with no answer, can also confirm official dock stopped outputting hdmi to tv, (not wanting to have to reset if that even fixes issue from update), if u havent modded ur deck, seems update caused alot of problems across the board , with no (selective) steam/linux users responding, u should put in a steam ticket, already im working on a separate workaround since, jsaux, now steam offical dock, dont work properly, good luck...

No mods, no haha, TO be very clear THE REST of the steam deck is working like a charm... its just desktop mode that seems to have its brains tilted a bit :P THIS THING has been VERY surprising and I cant wait support this thing more! its an excellent toy for people who want a continuing education while having fun! No negative thoughts intended! good to know I am not alone in this! Good luck to you as well on your dock issues being fixed, I am supposed to buy that next. lets both Hope it gets fixed before I get one myself! ha :munchsticker:

Much love :)

Have you tried turning it off and on again? Most times the simplest things can fix issues like this. Since you said it updated, sometimes it helps to turn it off and on again and see if this fixes the issue.

NOTE: This means turning off completly the steam deck, and not just have it go into sleep mode.

There is another possibility, but im not sure steam would make their steam deck anit-mod proof like nintendo or make it so you cannot play umm..using mods to play games not official on steam.

Same thing is happening to me, except I've been playing MelonDS emulator off the Discover Bar. I can no longer use the buttons to play the game directly on Steam Deck. Nothing happens when I press them. I even tried reconfiguring them in the input menu, and they don't even respond.

Tried resetting the Steam Deck multiple times and it doesn't work. I've tried setting to offline mode too, because when I'm not connected to the internet, it's the only way the controls work.

OK I just watched the most recent steam deck update videos... And there is this new feature where you have to press and hold what would be the START button on the right of the deck, and it sets game pad action mode while in desktop mode or something MAN I WAS TRIPPING WHEN I WENT IN TO SIMPLE64 and the controller worked for the first time since it stopped I am still freaking.... It was just me again not reading into the features an I was missing something. I will try and find the link and post it here for the video I watched....

This comment has literally helped me like 2 years later, after searching hours on how to get the controls on my emulator to work. Thank you!
