Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Steam-formatted MicroSD on Macbook
hey all
I am trying to manage my MicroSD content by using a USB-C Hub and plugging it into my Macbook.
I formatted the card on the Steam Deck.
However, upon inserting the card into the Macbook I get the following error message:
"The disk you attached was not readable by this computer."
What do I do?

I do not know Mac, but the problem exists for PC too. On PC I would go to my Disc Management applet, find the SD card, & delete the volume, create a new simple volume & during the creation format for ex-fat file system so the deck can read it. (This would wipe anything on the SD card though). The problem is that the deck's file system is not readable by Windows as it's file system & Windows file system (NTFS) are not compatible. I don't know what file system Mac uses but it sounds like the same thing is going on here.

Might have to use “syncthing” and keep the sd card as steam-readable

You may be better off using a usb-c flash drive that you can use between deck and pc to pull and transfer files. That’s what I use and it works good.

You can use FUSE on Mac and install the Ext4 driver, so you can share a single device between OSes, alternatively, you can drop to Deaktop mode and format an SD as ex-fat or vfat, though I'd rather use a more robust file system.
