Steam deck battery upgrade
Is there any way to replace stema deck battery with a better one?(Maybe repair store, or smth provides this kind of service)?

If your battery is not working correctly I would recommend an RMA
Naaah i mean, basically is there a way to upgrade battery life. Basically just swap it with a better one

Not at this time. I say it that way in case this changes in the future and someone digs up this thread.

It's not possible in most products so don't count on that but power banks instead

I’ve opened and tinkered with the steam deck and trust me when I say there is no room in there to add ANYTHING.

The way the steam deck is designed and put together there is just no way of adding a bigger battery capacity without redesigning the entire case.

someone will produce a replacement back cover that is thicker in the middle to accommodate both a bigger battery, and , has been proved by other already, a cable to relocate the SSD socket and add a full size SSD , it will add weight, sure, but imagine a steam deck with actual 8 hrs battery life and 2 or more TB SSD boot storage

Im not an engineer, so I’m asking, is there no other battery material that has more storage for the same size?

Looking forward to one, I hope we'll get a better battery one day!

For a drop in replacement , not unless you can invent a battery with a way better energy density then Lithium Ion.
But Maybe some 3th party might make a combo with a bigger back cover and a bigger/extra battery so you could remove the old back side an replace it with an bigger/extra battery. Has been done before with phones i believe.

There are other types of batteries that are theoretically more efficient, but none that are actually being commercially manufactured so that you can just buy one. The Deck's LiPo battery is basically the best that Valve could fit inside it; if there was something better available, I'm sure they would have used that instead.

You can get 8 hours of battery life on the steam deck now =) I get that currently with the standard battery by using the settings in the power menu.

You can improve the power draw to make your steam deck last quite a bit longer on battery - if you are not playing demanding games, I suggest fiddling around in the power menu - it's under the " . . . " key - go to the little battery symbol in that menu, and turn your frame-rate limit to 60 (that will keep the steam deck's GPU from pulling obscene amounts of energy when it doesn't really need to.) And turn on the Thermal Power (TDP) Limit option. Then adjust your Watts down until your game drops just below 60fps in your game, then turn it up by 1 watt above where-ever that is.

I play a lot of simple indie titles, and my own TDP is usually set at 3 watts - this gives me about 8 hours of playtime between charges in games

Also, actually turn the steam deck entirely off when you are not using it for long periods, sleep mode Will drain battery at a decent rate, it's convenient, but if you leave it in sleep mode for 8 hours or more, you will notice your battery getting lower between play sessions which will require charging more often.

For the storage, I put all my games on Micro-SD cards, a few 512 cards loaded up with varieties of games on each one, gives you access to a huge library, and you can carry the extra Micro-SD cards around in the case your Steam Deck comes with, and swap them out as needed. I suggest leaving the on-deck storage for the needs of the OS (don't stick games on the internal storage - especially if you get the 64gb version.)

I'm not sure if anyone made anything like it for steamdeck, but for the nintendo switch there are "backpacks".
a somewhat bulky protective cover that wraps around the back, connects to the USB port, and has a built-in power bank.
given that the steamdeck supports USB hubs it should even be possible for someone to design one with an SSD slot or extra sdcard slots, although an SSD would not run at peak performance this way.

The problem with batteries is that they require a charge controller and those are carefully calibrated to work with just that battery. You can't change battery types without changing the charge controller. Plus if you change the battery size you will have issues getting a full charge and if there is a proprietary communications protocol all will be for naught.

Can you take the stock battery out and wire a battery pack to the stock battery connector?

if you are technical with it... you could prob buy a new battery from ifixit and then create a UPS circuit , wire them together and mount the new one on the back with a cover.

It would be nice if someone made a hotswap tray w/ back so you can just switch out batteries any time.

I was thinking about this but idk how to link them together! The battery pack I could wire through the original connector to the usb c out and use a buck converter in between to set the voltage!
