Why dont you just have your steam deck run over night plugged in to update or when you aren't using it?
At least right now, it's a setting at the game level.
With that said, OP, it's very strange that you would frequently have to download shader updates for every game you have installed; that should not happen on a normal basis. If you keep your games installed on an SD card, try to avoid removing and re-inserting the card; that will invalidate the shader cache for every game and force the Deck to re-download them.
If you have all of your games installed on the Deck's internal storage or never remove the SD card, you shouldn't be seeing updates that often, and there might be a problem with your disk. I've got around 30 games installed on my Deck and don't remember the last time I had to download shaders for any of them.
Uhh, no you don't. The entire point of them being put into a queue is so that you don't have to download them immediately. You can queue them all up right away if you want, or you can just download the shaders for the game you're going to play next. I am willing to bet that you don't play all of your games every day.
You can just set it so it doesn't turn off tho and set an alarm and come back to it? I leave my deck plugged into the dock all day and on.
Screens not on when you have it docked. You can have the screen dim if you don't have a dock while it updates, its not like you have leave it on all day like me, just update it when you aren't using it and put it to sleep hence set an alarm.
Additionally you can disable "shader pre-caching" (i.e. downloading of pre-made shaders) altogether. But in that case they get compiled during gameplay which will result in worse performance.
Because I live in a cabin in the woods with no Internet. I go into town to get coffee on crappy free wifi and hope that Steam doesn't decide to break all my games and force me to spend hours downloading gigabytes of unexplained crap.

In the game options, for updates, there is an option called "High Priority - Always auto update this game before others".
I agree! And! After a year from your post this is Still a Problem! I am so sick and tired of Constant Updates Every Single time I turn on my Steam Deck. WTF!
