Is this going to be fixed in an update? Can a Valve employee please comment on this issue.

What controller? Last time I tried my Xbox Series controller on Bluetooth, it was fine.

Yeah I've been using a Switch pro with mine, no lag either.

I've used 3 different wireless controllers with bluetooth and they all have noticeable input lag. It's a known issue that I've seen others talk about. I think you guys are just not able to tell.

bluetooth in general kinda sucks for gaming (on pc at least).
If you want better Iatency you should either go wired or get one of those non bluetooth adapters, like the magic-ns adapter for the switch controller

Every BT controller will have input lag in some way or another. I've got an assortment of controllers (XBox 1 S, DS3, DS4, DS5, WiiU Pro, Steam Controller) and usually Sony controllers are OK-ish (I really have to pay attention to notice the latency), as well as the XB1S... and the worst is deffinitely the SC in BT mode, especially when using the gyro (even with the dongle if do not use the extender, you WILL notice some latency). Only wireless controller which would have almost 0 latency was my 360 with receiver (it has since then died a drifting death).

I use(d) all these on Linux, be at my main rig (BT 5.0 dongle) or my laptops (one BT 4.0 and one BT 5.2), so relatively close to the Deck experience.

Bottom line, it does depend on the controller, and likely your receiver (but since the one on the Deck is 5.0, IIRC, should be current 'enough').

Not sure if it could be alleviated with software via Steam Input or the drivers directly (in the case of my XB1S controller for a loooong time I had to use a patched xpad driver, until the one upstream cought up, not sure Valve is getting behind controller drivers as they are with graphics drivers, though)

I'm finding the input lag on my Xbox wireless controller pretty much unplayable when connected via Bluetooth. The Steam Deck currently doesn't support the USB wireless adapter (which would have been the obvious work-around). I've seem rumblings on Reddit about being able to modify a bunch of files manually to try and eliminate the lag (if you're comfortable with Linux), but it seems like a lot of effort to go to for each controller when it'll probably be wiped every system update.

Upping this as it is still not fixed.
Very noticeable input lag with PS5 controller connected via BT.

Exactly the same here.

My issue, is that I have spent the last day looking for a solution to a problem that seems to be impossible to fix on Steam!

If you leave your wireless joypad alone for five minutes.
It will auto off.

And when you wake it.
It will reconnect to the deck/pc ok.
But be unresponsive in any game you were playing.
Thus, causing you to lose any progress you had made.

It seems, only the xbox can disable to auto off function, of an xbox wireless controller. The PC and the Steam Deck cannot.

Very poor implementation especially in 2023...

Very poor indeed.

Very poor indeed.
If not using a custom RF receiver (SC/XBOX/SonyPS), anything via BT will have lag, simply due to how the protocol works and is implemented.
