Release the Steam Deck in Australia

Pretty much as the title says - stop being lazy and make the Steam Deck available to Australians... It's not hard, so make it happen.

If the big consoles manufacturers - Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony - can release multiple consoles in Australia without issue, whilst turning a profit, there's simply no excuse that Valve Software, with all its money, cannot do the same...

So stop jerking off and make the Steam Deck available to Australians.

The genuine and official 45W charger was certified for Australia and New Zealand back in 2021-Valve support confirmed that the ERAC/ULL certification is the correct charger for Australia as such to me but not available as a spare part from iFixit who sells other Steam Deck spare parts on their AU store.

Have no clue to what kind of charger the JB Hi-Fi NZ ones comes with though and JB Hi-Fi Australia doesn't seem to sell any sort of Steam Deck unlike JB NZ.

Has the Wi-Fi radio also been certified and offered pre-programmed to their regional radio spectrum?

It would be interesting to know if they completed the work, but if devices like the Raspberry Pi have no issues, it shouldn't really matter.

Just ended up buying a 64gb model on Kogan for $700, saved a few dollars in the process. Still annoyed i have to buy third party but at least i was able to get one.

Seeing a lot of used ones on Ebay now people lost interest or are the genuine problems?

There are a lot of other manufacturers giving the handheld PC concept a go. Some are more powerful. Some had OLED panels before Valve released a model that had one, so people would have switched for that reason alone.

They all pretty much come with Windows (aside from the streaming-only gaming devices running Android, but those typically aren't based on amd64 architecture anyway). Some people prefer Windows. eg. people with big game libraries from other stores such as GOG that don't have such great GNU/Linux support (or any support at all, such as Epic Store).

Valve still haven't delivered on their promise to make SteamOS available for installation on BYO hardware. When they do, I suspect that many of these non-Valve machines will be even more enticing (eg. you could dual-boot, or pick whichever OS you prefer). I probably wouldn't even care so much about the Deck not being sold world-wide if I could just get a ROG Ally or an MSI Claw from JB Hi-Fi with SteamOS pre-installed and have a comparable experience at a comparable price.

Thanks. I'm a little surprised. Well I guess the timing is about right, if it were to ever be released — wait until everyone has already imported it and/or there are better options already on the market, like they did with the Index (although I think this took even longer than the Index?).

I hope it's available at EB Games so that I can trade it in for the OLED model. Otherwise, I'll probably just stick with what I have. Regardless, I'll finally be picking up the official dock — unless Valve decides to prevent the purchase of one without the purchase of a Deck, or just decides to not sell the Deck here (or maybe it's coming "soon" so still a few more years away?).

Yes, Valve has turned me into a pessimist.

Just 2 days before the 30th Anniversary PlayStation 5 Pro + Portal comes out, for those of us with a preorder.

At least it seems like Valve will be good to sell the Deck 2 in Australia on launch, presumably next year.
