Desktop mode mouse click
Can you change mouse clicks in desktop mode to L2 / R2 without having to press the steam button down also? It's so lame lol

Yes. Go to the controller settings in desktop mode Steam, and pick the desktop controller settings. Clicks on triggers and scroll wheel on the left trackpad are my preferred settings.

Thank you!!! I didn't think of looking in the steam settings lol
i'm sorry, as a linux noob, i didnt understand this, i saw awhile back detailed instructions to fix mouse inputs on desktop mode (before deck arrival and got buried), but idk where controller settings is and how to setup like using bumpers as scroll up/down, triggers as right left buttons, etc, not happy having to use haptics

It's not a Linux thing; it's a Steam thing. It's Steam that's providing all the inputs in desktop mode (you'll see that Steam autolaunches when you go into desktop mode).

Go into desktop mode.
Click on the Steam icon on the panel and select Library (Steam seems to struggle to open the configurator window without that window being open already).
Click on the Steam icon on the panel and select Settings.
Click on Controller, then click on Desktop Configuration.
That will open up a Big Picture Mode-style window that will let you configure which buttons get used for what in desktop mode. Currently, those don't line up well with the image of the Steam Deck - they're aligned to the Steam Controller - but apparently a less janky version is on its way.
Set up the buttons how you want them. I use right trigger as left click, left trigger as right click, both left stick and left touchpad as scroll wheel, and L3 (clicking in the left stick) as middle click.

thanks, more helpful, except this discussions will be burried since subscribing doesnt keep it on a list when its not active, and twice now, deck is freezing/unresponsive when accessing this (no mods or alts from purchase), so best guess my deck is having a no compat day for desktop mode...

You could just copy & paste the instructions somewhere, or bookmark the thread and read it on another device.

That sounds like this part:

It's expecting that the input will go into the new window, but it hasn't opened the new window, so inputs don't go anywhere. If you open the library first, it seems to not get confused.
