Steam Deck
No Signal on 4k LG Tv with JSAUX dock.
Hi guys, i just received my JSAUX Usb C dock. It works fine on my two pc monitors (1080p @ 144hz and 3400*1440p @ 100hz) but i can't get any signal on my 4k LG TV.
The deck turns into a black screen when i plug the HDMI cable and then nothing happens.
I bought the dock for this TV only so i'm a bit frustrated.
Thank you guys for helping.

Well that's strange.. . ok them hmmm.. if you don't mind black bars you could use one of the 16:10 resolutions (assuming your TV knows what to do with that signal, if it doesn't work, then you can also use 1920x1080 (1080p) but it might make things look a bit fuzzy, especially text.

Remember to change it back to 60hz too.

Do you have a shorter cable? Sometimes the length of the cable can make a difference too. (do watch that video I linked earlier, it is useful info for cable problems)

i ordered another hdmi cable. I'll use the tv on 1080p@60hz in the meantime. It's a shame that the deck didnt offer me 1440p tho...

Big thanks to zen and everyone who helped.

Just my 2c Xbox X cable is hdmi 2.1 spec which supports 4K @ 120 hz and even 8K@60 hz so definitely should have worked with Steam Deck if it works with Xbox X fine on your TV using 4K @ 60 hz.

Some TVs only have one HDMI port that supports 4K @ 60 hz, so watch out for that too.

So try testing Xbox X and its HDMI 2.1 cable on same TV - if it works at 4K @ 60 hz and you get same issue with new cable with DEck/TV combo you can always return it.

imo Valve should provide cable with Deck and have list of tested or recommended cables made available. That way we would not need to rely on LTT or any body else. It only the specs listed for Deck Dock that we can use to find spec of cables supported by Steam Deck, which is why LTT said "we need to test Deck on big screen and see if it works as advertised" but they also previously said in other video "Deck will never work well on large display as Decks native 720p display is never going to upscale well to 4K"

Something not mentioned yet worth checking is go to your TV manufacturers website to see if there is a firmware update available for your TV, or just check for updates in your TVs advanced settings to search for available firmware update. You should be able to see current firmware version in same settings on TV.

HDCP or CEC could be messing with things too so try clearing any CEC issues simply by switching off your TV and all of its connected devices for 15 mins and then turn your TV on before you reconnect and power on devices .

The Steam Deck is only going to show you resolutions there that are provided by the external display via its EDID. If your TV doesn't have 1440p as a supported resolution in its EDID then Steam Deck isn't going to present that resolution as an option.

I have also seen some other conflicting reports regarding the regular Jsaux USB-C dock with some people seeing the ethernet port only supporting 100Mbps and not the 1Gbps as advertised and the USB3.0 ports only supporting USB2.1 speeds. I haven't seen other users report the DP1.4 to HDMI output on that dock not supporting 4K@60Hz, however, it is something to keep in mind that it could be the dock limiting it. Most of the other USB-C docks currently available only support 4K@30Hz with the Jsaux being one of the few that advertises 4K@60Hz.

If it still isn't working for you when you get the new HDMI cable, and if you want to rule out the dock being an issue, you could try to get a USB-C to HDMI cable that lists it supports USB-C with DisplayPort 1.4 alt mode and directly connect it to your TV.

So i managed to display 1080p @ 60hz or 4k @ 30hz on the tv but i can't reach the 4k @ 60 hz. My tv is the LG OLED55B6V wich has HDMI 2.0a ports. So it should support 4k@60hz. I tried with other HDMI cables but no succes so far.
How? In game mode?
So I bought the 4K cable from JSAUX. Even with that I don't get any signal on my 4K TV. Only desktop mode is working up to 4k/30Hz. With 60Hz I get no signal there too.
SteamOS or game mode it would seem the external Docks are not working correctly and/or incomplete features. Such as going to Display in game mode and the only settings you get are a slider for external monitor/device. Nothing else. Not even the normal drop-down you get for configuring your monitor(s) that you get on pretty much all OS's these days. Only Desktop Mode has those features.

While in game mode on an external screen, when you're in a game, all you get are 1280x800 screen settings and lower. Nothing higher.

I'm assume right before Vavle releases their Dock for Steam Deck, then we'll have more functionality for screen settings in game mode. But who knows when that'll be. Hopefully soon.

All of those features are already present in bata and preview branches.
Some good news, Valve has said they are working more on dock oriented features, and their updates will affect all docks that people currently use. So that's a good thing =)

I can not speak to the JSAUX specific cable, as I have not personally tried that one. I suggest Club3D cables which are rated for the quality you are after. Of course be careful when buying and make sure you are getting a real one, there are a lot of fakes out there.
hang on, ppl using a handheld device as a gaming PC to connect to monitors>?

Same for me, i hope that an update will fix this soon... Can't use the Deck on my tv except Desktop mode 4k/30hz or 1080p/60hz.

Yep! it works pretty great too! Though some people are having problems with some 4k TV's at certain resolutions, it appears there may be some updates required to get all the TV's working at 4k. But it works ok with normal computer monitors, and plenty of normal TV's too.

Yes, it is indeed. Hopefully the 4k issues with some tvs get fixed. Perhaps someone might have to contact the tv companies and ask them about it we could get more clarification on the exact issue..whether it is the hdmi cords or the port that is in the tv itself, because those also can cause issues and the ports themselves can also be faulty. Had this happen on a tv before.
