How to transfer home island to new world
I currently have two worlds, and have different home islands in each world. Which made me think I couldn't move my home island between worlds.

Can I transfer one of my home islands to a new world, then delete the one it used to be in ? If so, how ?

To test this, I made a new character and a new world. I claimed an island as my home; found a better island, despawned island 1 and claimed island 2.

Then I made another new world. World 2 let me spawn both claimed islands; nothing built on either was lost, nor stuff in chests (well, I didn't store anything in island 2).

Then I deleted World 1.

World 2 seemed unaffected, and I was able to claim a couple more islands, which just made my list longer. I tried despawning and respawning a few times, just to be sure; no problems.

So, it appears that claimed islands are unaffected by deletion of the world from whence they came. Does this answer your original question?

Yes, the island is tied to your character. In your new world, go to inventory (I) and go to the last tab on the right. There should be the option to select your island.

You can also claim as many islands as you want (as far as i know). Although you can only spawn 1 home at a time (per world), I now have 3 homes (my first, my second and a small one for the rock wall)

Claiming a new island:
1. despawn home island (in inventory last tab): you will be placed on a random island closeby
2. Build a kite on the new island
3. name and claim island

You now have a second island saved. You can still spawn your previous island by despawning the current home island

(ines, it sounds like you are doing this already? Cool)

By the way, on my next playthrough (now that we have a new patch), I was thinking of maintaining TWO homes from the start; my custom workshop comfy one for my animals/farm, and holding most of my stuff... and a separate workshop IBI for fast traveling and going through the barriers.

Since your stuff is saved on each instance when you despawn, it should be pretty easy to land on any island and despawn comfy, spawn in IBI, go through the barrier... land... spawn comfy back in, etc.

Am I insane? :steamhappy:

Yes I am :) I just made a quick steam guide, feedback is appreciated, never made a guide before :p https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3416860824

No I love that idea. Actually, you could claim a huge island and just start building. You don't need to be able to sail it to claim it. Then you could have your sailing island and use the second part of my guide to switch out homes :)

Edit: I read somewhere on here that you can't claim all islands, only up to medium and def not the fresco island, bummer

Good job, Ines! I'm sure that will help numerous players struggling with this.

Xitooner, you may want to repeat your comment on Ines' guide, since it's such a clever use of the system. Very inspired thinking!

Look at the island through the telescope. If it has a 'KG' icon, it's too massive to use as a sailing island.

Oh that is such a good tip! I might add that to the guide

Awesome! Thank you!
I started a new world with the patch but I wanted to search for a different island to setup as a base as previously I had to island directly behind spawn with the waterfall. I ended up just making a "temporary" base by fixing up one of the smaller ship islands and flying it around. Eventually I ended up just building on the circular pond island in the initial spawn area. (Near the IBI, but I still wanted water for farming)

I was a little concerned because when I despawned "Temporary" and swapped in the new island, the old one still appeared in my list. I see the delete option was removed as originally there was a delete island option in the menu.

Is there a way to get rid of the unwanted island?

Can you try disassembling the kite you used to claim it at home ?

I seem to remember that that was the obvious solution to me, but that it doesn't work.

There used to be an option to "delete home island" but there was a lot of confusion on how to use all those options. I think that is why they temporarily took that option away. You should be able to delete a home island by finding the game files and deleting them. I'll see if I can find the location again and I'll add it to the guide

I think I found it, I added the info in the section "File location"

Is that guide hidden? When I try to open it, it indicates that it is hidden in some way. Thanks!

Sorry I was adding some stuff and it said it was going to be hidden until an automated process clears it for malicious links etc. Is it back up?
