For those who have experimented with balloon cores
I have a curiosity, as I have not gotten to the point of messing with cores yet. I know you can place them side by side (making your airship wider as you add more), and I also know that you can go beyond the second one.

Has anyone found there to be an upper limit to the number of total cores? The highest I've seen with a quick search is one guy has four cores.

Does anyone know if you can place them in a line, rather than side by side? In other words, making a long airship instead of a wide one.

Once I tried to place a second core behind the first one, fully extended by that time (one extension forward and the rest of the extensions to the rear). Despite being able to place enough rooms at the stern section of the ship to accommodate the second balloon, game didn't let me to do so, saying "Too far away from balloon" or "Too far away from airship", something of those two. What can possibly work is to extend first core all the way forward, then place the second one behind it and extend it all the way backwards. but it's a big 'possible'. As always, you won't know until you try.

Edit: be aware - when you remove extended balloon from the ship, you lose all resources you put into extensions. So you'd better wait until this issue is addressed.

Not only that, but removal is the only option. cannot downgrade balloon, which is infuriating when you're laying out/testing

I agree. I upgraded my second balloon and extended it differently than the first. I now have a lop-sided blimp, which annoys me. I cannot remove either balloon due to the weight restrictions.

i have 7 fully upgraded balloon cores on my ship 2 to the left one in front of the other then 3 inline in middle and 2 more to the right one in front of the other , so you have to mess about but you can put them on top of one another as well, but when you build block count and weight must be watched closely so you can build etc, NEVER fully upgrade the balloon because you will only get back base balloon matts when you remove it , NOT the upgrade matts , so i do not think there is a limit other then what you want to deal with

Thanks for the responses. The dream of two balloons up front, and two in the back, yet lives... I hope the devs add a creative mode down the line, would make testing stuff like this significantly easier.
