question rainwater collector
Is this device still part of the game?
I've been to every POI multiple times and I have not found it.

It is. It will be back out soon. It was just released on the Beta Branch along with the Small Inverted Cockpit. So as soon as they make sure all the bugs are out. It will be released on the Live Branch. So keep an eye out for the next hotpatch. Happy Gaming.

Thank you Phoenix, as always very helpful.

Nice timing on your question - the patch went live this morning on the main branch, the rain collector is back now. =) You'll just need to go research it.

Having never played through when the collector was available I am rather curious as to what niche it fills. I never found myself wanting for water and in fact had a completely filled tank of dirty water I never touched.

That is another subject though, why we cant store clean water in the tanks.

Because the plants can use dirty water. You can cook with dirty water. The only reason for clean water is to drink. So no need for a big storage tank just for that. The Rain Water collector is just another way to get water without investing in Condenser Membranes.

Phoenix would probably know better but I think the rain catcher is an early game device.
A device you find before you can go into a area with water tanks.
Because of the SW fix the device was removed from the game.

I have now researched the device and added to the list of things I have found.
At this point the device is outdated and I no longer need it.
For me I was just trying to find all the devices I can

@PhoenixCat Undestood that plants can use dirty water, I only used the tanks as an example to illustrate I had more than enough.

And membranes are easy enough to come by as you know. I understand the collector is just a passive means to get 'more' water, but since I never had access to it I found I did not need it anyways and I wonder if I will even use it now.

I guess if you ran a 'huge' farm I could see the benefit, but I personally never had more than 6 planters going at once.

Yes, you are correct Individual-1 It is usually used early in the game when resources are low. I keep one around just to use as a quick fill for the purifier.

I for example have a huge farm. At least one of every type of plant. Most people do not know though that you can cook with the dirty water also. There is no wrong or right playstyle. That is the beauty of games like this. Everyone forges their own path.

Rain catchers are great throughout game actually if you have the weight space. You build 4-5 of them somewhere and whenever it rains you grab all the water and dump it into your tank.

I actually wish we could as well. I store clean water in bottle in a large chest in the meantime. I wish we could purify the water somehow and then store them in tanks using the pipes..
