Datapads are stupid
I can deal with some loot rng in games. But I thought having massive amounts of blueprints locked behind random rng datapads was going to be a temporary thing. Coming back to the game a couple of years after I first played it I would have thought there would be a better system in place for unlocking blueprints.

It just gets so tedious stopping at every single POI when you don't even need any of the resources on them just hoping to find datapads. I could deal with the datapad rng if it was all purely decorative and paint stuff that didn't really matter other than aesthetically. But it feels stupid when you're 90% of the way through the story and you're still trying to hunt down blueprints that allow you to build out your ship in some kind of reasonable manner. There needs to be a non rng based system for advancing through the different tiers of shipbuilding pieces.

If you have multiple tools that require data cards, you will find one every 6 minutes. They will switch between each type at random."

Yah thats a pretty ♥♥♥♥ system. So instead of anythought I just game a system timer.... This is what killed this game for me. Couldnt get what I wanted to continue was lame just hunting with no idea what i was looking for or doing. Kinda wish i refunded this when i could.

A few years?! We've only been in Early Access for a year and a half xD

As to your point, we agree. We're working on a new, better system that doesn't rely on RNG for datacards that will be a part of the full release.

What happens when one is trying to outfit the ship first?

I got all my main pieces for my ship in a new game within a couple of towers. Ladder room, Stairs, and cockpits. So all the basics seem to come out early in the game. I was mainly hitting the questline also. So that was without a lot of exploring.

You keep saying this all the time in multiple threads, but you are straight out wrong. Stop gas-lighting people.

I personally started a new game a few days ago and it has taken me ages to find the building parts, still have no bloom parts at all, still missing complete railings, still missing small fridge, and many others. I have flown to literally hundreds of towers post patch, and I find that usually only about 25% of the towers I land at have data cards. Some locations have higher rates than others. So stop with this 'anyone can find everything they need in a few towers' nonsense.

The system is pretty bad and too simple and imho should be replaced by some sort of tech-tree where people can just select what they want using data cards rather than having to rely on RNG. The current system punishes you for grabbing the paint gun where in some sort of new selection based tech-tree anyone could just research the colours they want. In your game "where you got everything needed in a couple of towers" perhaps you were simply lucky as I can say without a doubt this was not my experience. I do however have every single paint colour imaginable and all I wanted was black.

The main reason people play this game is to use airship building and explore cool places in that airship and for some reason airship building is made tedious and difficult and end-game where it should be something that is started immediately when starting a new game. Not throwing a bunch of crap into a few floating squares while you build up your schematics...

Anyways that is my opinion. Love the game but it does have some issues that should be fixed before release date.

Edit: I just read Greg's post above me. It is good that they will replace the RNG with something else. Besides that and optimization there is really no reason that someone would not enjoy the game compared to earlier versions.

I found the basic pieces rather quickly as well. But we're talking about basic pieces, meaning walls, doors and windows. Anything basic you need to build the ship(I'm quite happy they moved the hanging cabinet, since they're more spacious and I can stall some artifacts on top of them).

The bloom data pads, are obviously later in game, because you need the more advanced resources for them as well. At least that's how I see it.

You say Phoenix is gas-lighting. They're not. If you rush from POI to POI, obviously you are finding less data pads then when you're taking your time(with current game mechanics).
Each person has a different playstyle. Each playstyle have their own advantages. Some playstyles, just don’t match with current gameplay.

Some enjoy the journey instead of racing towards the end. And with current gameplay, those who take it slower are less or not troubled with finding data cards.

Phoenix has been going to every single thread talking about the data-cards and saying people are wrong and probably using an old save or mods. Clearly they themselves were wrong as recent updates have tried to address this issue and also fixed not spawning schematics. They claim that you can find datacards everywhere you go but again are wrong. You say "current game mechanics" but where are these explained to me? All I do is fly from tower to tower trying to find datacards because I have everything else I need. I only have limited storage space until I expand my ship. Anyways..

Congrats to Phoenix on becoming a mod. I am not interested in arguing I just find it annoying when people refuse to listen to complaints and try to explain it away.

You may be right about the bloom pieces. They never used to cost different resources compared to the originals. Still would be better to get them earlier than later in my opinion but I can understand the reasoning behind it.

It's actually in this thread ^^

Edit: I personally love the bloom versions and would have them rather sooner then later as well, but every game I play, I noticed I first get a lot of lighting objects, before anything else. So I figured it might have to do with resources available. I could be completely wrong about that though

I was explaining my experience when I started a new game. I never went to the change-log or discord or discussions as I just was interested in starting a new game. I don't think it is very unreasonable to think flying to new locations would give me new data cards and never read anywhere of these being on a timer.

Anyways.. I already got mostly everything the old fashioned way.

I got a few lights but am missing tons of variants, I am missing many parts of the railings as well. I only got corners and small ones. I think it is just pure random.

Well... tbh I think some gotten lost and were fixed with last update, because I saw people mentioning they didn't get the glass railing and after I started a new game on the beta, that was one of the first I gotten
If you do however miss more blueprints you were sure that they were there before and with the game mechanic I told you about in mind and you still don't get them. By all means report it in upvote. Upvote is a site where FFH collect all bugs and suggestions. It's accessible for anyone and only maintained by devs. The link is pinned in general discussions iirc

I appreciate you view. I was just giving mine also. At that time there were some issues with spawn rates. That was fixed. If someone was still having issues, it is standard to ask if they are using new saves on current version and any mods. This is just going thru the motions of trying to help them. As stated by GM Greg. They are working on a new system that hopefully will make things more accessible from the start. There are some mechanics at play besides just plain RNG. As in what tools you have gotten. Happy Gaming to you.

You may be right. I definitely am missing large glass railing. I only have the corners. Probably what it was.

So, to get finally the large glass railing i would need to restart the game??

This is a very old post. Things have changed if you are playing on the Beta Branch.
Wurzel Apr 4 @ 1:57pm
Do I? Can i see that somehow? :D

This tells you how to switch to Beta Branch. https://steamcommunity.com/app/1641960/discussions/0/3878219197537249801/?snr=___ If your saves are older than the Co-op update. Then they will not be compatible and you will need to start a new game. Just so you are aware. Plus there are so many changes. It is recommended anyways.
