Suggestion: Greenhouse module
I tried to use the sprinkler system and it did not end well.

A greenhouse module setup with planters and a plumbing system could
be deployed to resolve the watering issue.

All you would have to do is:
-Attach the module to the ship with the ship building tool
-Plant and fertilize seeds.
-Attach a water source (Pipe Water Generator)
to the module and a misting system could be used to keep the plant watered.
