How do I destroy the preternatural gnarls?
The lack of support for this game in the form of guides/wikis is insane at this point.

I finished the first underdust location and was sent to this infected place with plants growing all over it that hurt me when I touch them. Also I need to have my immunity boosted to wander around there (which is super annoying)

Anyway, I have an optional objective to destroy the gnarls. I've fired about 50 crossbow bolts into tendrils and bulbs all over the place. Nothing reacts to being shot. So obviously I'm shooting the wrong stuff.

So... thanks for letting me waste all that ammo I guess?

But anyway, how do I destroy these gnarls...?

And if it's specific parts I have to shoot, where are they?

Find the bright red glowing bulbs that have interaction prompts. They are usually somewhat hidden, but the glow is usually visible through obstructions once you are close. They will be very obviously different from the non-interactable gnarls. There's usually about three per tower, and when you clear them all the infectious aura will recede.

I agree the information given is not enough.. I died at least 2 or 3 times (mind you I've actually NEVER died in this game before this) when I finally figured it out..

when you look at an object, it shows what you need to use though

I've been scouring all the four floors or w/e of this infested tour. I've found one infestation and killed it, gathering the 10 seeds from it.

And the thing said there was one infection remaining. I cannot find it anywhere. I have scoured and scoured. Any idea what I'm screwing up?

It was in a big pipe. Man that took a hell of a lot of health kits to end up finding.

Just burned through all this valuable stuff I was stockpiling. Felt really great to be zeroed out just to get one stupid optional objective complete. Great design.

Big pipe by any chance?

This is why we give you the blueprint for the immunity booster before you're supposed to go there.

If you're entering the location without the proper protection, it will wreck your sh*t.

I had the immunity booster on the whole time of course. You still take massive damage from every tiny scratch with any of the foliage, prior to eliminating the contamination. This has nothing to do with the booster and everything to do with the annoying plants.

Ahh ok my apologies, then you need to watch where you're walking.

Easy to say when you know where the contaminations are, but in normal human playstyle, when you're searching a large space for something the look of which you're not even sure about, not only is it harder to pay attention, more risks need to be taken.

You also need those seeds later, so keep them somewhere safe.

Chalk this session up to experience; now that you know how the gnarls work, you will be able to do the next tower faster and at less cost. With some practice you should be able to clear all the gnarls on a tower without taking damage, then you can loot it at your leisure.

Yep there's definitely that!

(Direct answer is "shoot them with a crossbow")

Once you know how to look for them, you can get the majority with a simple knife and still take no damage. Given how close you have to get and how many of them are concealed in a pipe or workshop room, you might as well skip the bolts.

There is a fan wiki, you can easily find with a google or by checking the pins in this very discussion board. Here is the entry you need - https://forever-skies-database.fandom.com/wiki/Preternatural_Seeds
