Fertilizer might be changeable after it is used up but there is no point in doing that if the seed only uses one kind of fertilizer.
I store the big pots and start a new one for each seed.
Devs know about this "bug" we will see if it gets fixed.
If you've got plenty of materials and space is the limiting factor you can simply keep a large plot with each kind of plant in a storage container. They'll keep forever planted in the plot and sitting in a storage container, so you can simply grab out the one you need resources from at a given point and it will pick right back up growing again once you add water to it.
Or if you have a large ship, you can create a greenhouse and have eight growing at once. I never build that big though.
Most of my ships I end up making big enough I have at least 1 to 2 of every plant in game. Plus a freezer full of stuff. I'm a hoarder. LOL. Never know what you might need. :)
