Mysterious On-Screen Symbol?

Was hoping someone could help me determine what this symbol is that appears periodically, when I'm looking at something like a laptop or a dead body in the game.
If you look at the screenshot, you'll notice a symbol to the right of the extractor. The symbol looks like some kind of device, like a battery or portable hard drive or something.
Does anyone know what this is? I just started playing, so maybe I've missed something?

That's the scanner. It means you can scan the thing you are looking at (the body).
If you have the scanner, put it in the quick bar, if not make one.

Thank you so much! I guess I haven't reached the point where I have a scanner, yet. I basically just crashed on the planet and stepped out of the drop pod.

You will notice the different tools pop up in the corner when you can use them on something. Makes it easy to see and know what to use while you get to known everything.
