New Player struggling with altitude ??
How do you get to gain altitude with your ship. I've made 2 turbines, placed on walls as directed and still cannot lift. I'm only at the basic level at the moment. Am I missing something? Is there a minimum turbines you need to make? My ship weight is good. Ctrl takes me down as supposed to but space doesn't do anything. I've searched for answers but nothing I've found is wrong with mine. Please help. Tnx.

Look at your helm(steering device). What's the exact amount of masl(Meters Above Sea Level)?

Without any turbines the max is 230 iirc. With 2 turbines, you should be able to reach a height of 270 masl. If it's not 270, check if there are any objects above you that hinder you.

Normal turbines give 20m each. I don't remember the max for normal turbines.
I do know that while the upgraded turbines also give 20m each. They can lift you to an altitude of max 400 masl, which requires 9 ugraded turbines.
Both ascending and descending is slow.

You say space ? I think the default ascend is left SHIFT ... or did you remap your keys?

I play with controller, so I don't know the exact mapping of keys with keyboard. This is a good comment and should be considered by OP

I am in open sky with MASL 222. My ship load is 462 out of 500. But it didn't work even at 350/500. I will try remapping my keys. I have 2 basic turbines. And 2 Engines. 4 rooms only 2 have metal walls for turbines

If that doesn't work. Is it persisting thru a save and restart of the game? Also may do a verify of your files on Steam just to check. I would also reset keys to default.

So it was L Shift to Lift. So I reset key binds then restored to default. It may have been just operator error 😅. I could have swore my HUD said space not shift. But I think my brain subbed space because of its shape being longer and skinny. Thanks everyone!

Engines are only for speed.
Lift is basically amount you can build, which limits to the size and/or amount of balloons
Altitude is tied to turbines.
They barely influence each other. I say barely because both turbines and engines have a weight and will influence what you can build/place at your ship
