How to anchor with docking plank?

I'm trying to get my ship to anchor while using the docking plank so scrapwings don't tear it apart while I'm exploring, but I've been unable to get it to show the anchor symbol and stop floating up and down. This leads me to believe the game doesn't consider my ship as docked.

The docking plank is unable to dock, all you can do with it is extend it untill it hits a surface like floor or wall. also scrapwings shouldn't attack your ship while you are away from it anchored or not, they should only appear i believe when your within a short range off ship or on ship.

Docking plank doesn't anchor the airship. You have to land. The anchor is more showing you've landed. Docking plank is just a walkway

Your ship does seem to stop bobbing up and down once you've stepped away from it though, even if only using the docking plank. This makes it easier to get back onto the plank.
