Missing upgrades - how to find them?
I have the large fuel tank but did not find the small one. Same for the large fridge but did not find the small one. What is the way to identify which Markers to search?

First you need to determine if you have actually missed the blueprints or haven't encountered them yet. Any location you visited have the blueprints opened in your studies, if the blueprints aren't in there, that means you haven't been to that location yet and you'll need to find '?' On the map.
If it is in your studies, it will tell you which type of location you need to look for.

Iirc the freezer is at the command centre(at the bottom) and the fuel tank is at the overgrown lift area(in the floating room).

I dont have them as a blueprint.

The problem is that I may have gone to the "command center" and just missed them. I probably also have removed the beacon.

So i guess the only way forward is to wiki the icons and visit the command center

The "Locations" section of the in-game database has the icons for every tower type you have discovered so far. No wiki necessary.
You can wiki the icons. But like Philtre said. There's no need since there's a lot of info in your studies/database. Anything visited is recorded. Any icon/location visited is in there. If you visited a command centre before... check database>world>wind farm variants>command centre
You'll see it's icon right there

The in-game database shows everything i already visited/found. My problem is to -re-visit a communication hub.

As far as i can tell, there is no ability to mark "X" on a location that you already visited?

Right, and if you check the Locations section of the database, it will tell you what the map icon for a communication hub is. Any communication hub will have the blueprint, until you scan it; you don't have to go back to the specific tower you visited before. (In fact, if you got far enough away, you can't go back even if you wanted to; the world is not persistent, and when you get a certain distance away from towers they despawn.)

No, but if you take the battery out of the power box, the icon on the map will go dim, so you can tell which towers you have looted already.

After the update the logic of which Blueprints you find first is gone. You should be able to find the small Freezer before the big Freezer and find the small Deck Extractor before finding the Automatic Deck Extractor or the Filtering Deck Extractor. The small Deck Extractor should be found at the Greenhouse Tower low platform player now land on early in the game.

The sequencing is fine if you follow the story quests. The standard deck extractor is now at the basic Lift tower, which is also where you get the Upgrade Station (in the Underdust at that tower) to make the two automatic variants. Immediately afterwards the game takes you to an Infested Greenhouse where you can get the Automatic deck extractor. You then have to wander off on your own to get the Filtering Deck Extractor.

The small freezer is in a very accessible tower that you can reach early, but the large freezer requires a docking plank, and IIRC upgraded turbines as well. So you have the ability to get the small freezer well before you have the ability to get the large one.

The small Freezer is found at the Command Center that spawns very rarely, therefore player often find the Big Freezer before the Small Freezer, following the storyline or not.

Couldn't build I small fridge, but had the large upgrade. Saw one of those locations early but couldn't reach it. Then never saw one again until after completing the story.

It would be good if there was a bigger clue about where you can find missing blueprints. Blindly visiting towers of all types to find something you missed is a bit tedious.

It'd probably help if we had something to guide us like a list of blueprints by type with ??? marking ones we don't have so we know which type we need, which we can then map to a particular set of towers which have that type of blueprint.

All you need to do is to periodically check the map for towers that have "?" symbols (indicating that it is a new tower type that you haven't encountered before), and whenever you land on a new type of tower, check the Studies menu before leaving to make sure you have collected all the blueprints/resources that spawn there. If you end up missing something, the Studies menu tells you which type of tower has it and you can look in the Locations section of the Database to see what the corresponding icon is. The game also tells you when you have discovered 100% of the blueprints and resources for each category of tower types.

? is undiscovered towers but i visited all already.

What i did to find it all is:
* fly in any direction for >2km to find a newly generated area.
* identify which towers contain what missing items (wiki online) and go through them (again) top to bottom
* rinse & repeat
Why go through wiki when it's much easier to look in studies and see what you've missed and where you missed it?

I can imagine you consult wiki to see where to find it at any location, but for checking what and where, studies are much more efficient since not scanned BP are unchecked
