remember the first rule of RPG type game. pick up everything that is not lock down and in this game, scavenge anything that is and CAN be taken with you (metal, glass, copper, etc)
And honestly, there should be a greenhouse tower nearby, so what looks like a slog may in reality be less than 10 minutes of playtime to fix.

Greenhouses are in another biome. It would be a slog. Anyway I did nothing and it seemed to just go away.
If your immunity is high it will sometimes go away. Once your immunity is low it will become chronic and get worse.
