Epoxy Soft Lock
So we can't get through the Underdust because we need Epoxy. We have ransacked 8 Greenhouse Towers looking for more in chests, as that is what all of the other advice has been. We had found some epoxy earlier but had not realized it would completely dry up. So we have an upgrader but not a virus sampler. It seems very stupid to lock the Plant Resin schematic behind the weird plant in the underdust when Epoxy is required to continue. I was enjoying my time with the game but this is terrible design. Please help.

The plants seem to be partially randomized, so there's a chance that not enough of the dust daisies above the tunnels will have harvest-able fruit to get you through researching and crafting your first batch of epoxy. And if none of them drop seeds, you pretty much have to go elsewhere to get either more epoxy or more dust daisies. Which is why it's important to make the virus analyzer first rather than any of the other cool things you can make with epoxy.
There should be at least three I think?

This is straight from the Wiki:

Recipe Unlock Information
Plant Resin is unlocked as a Research Recipe in the Research Station upon scanning or picking up Plant Resin.

To unlock the recipe at the Research Station you will need 1 x Dust Daisy.
5x Plant Resin can be Crafted in the Distiller with the following ingredients: 3x Dust Daisies

It is always advisable to collect special seeds and plant them in a planter even if you do not have everything unlocked or researched.
Yeah, research costs 1. It takes three for the distiller to make resin. If you got seeds, plant em

Yep, no resin exists before the Hypothermia Plants so if you can't get past them, you can't get resin to get past them. But an earlier commenter said that there are more Elevator towers and that there would be more Epoxy on the ground there for people like me who made the Upgrader before I knew about the Virus thing and ran out of Epoxy. This still feels like poor design IMHO. If you are going to have a crafting game and gate content, the gate should be accessible by crafting your way past it. There is zero difference to the gameplay if there is Resin on the other side of the flower so you can get the recipe for it.
One solution at OP's stage is to fly off and find a new underdust descent tower. Pull the solid state battery from the beacon at the one you're at so that you don't go back to the same one by mistake. You'll need a new Noah's Access Unit and Keycard, and at the bottom you'll find an Underdust zone identical to the one you were just at, but with all the resources respawned. Including the epoxy, which you'll find lying around here and there.

I'm pretty sure I didn't need to do that though. Doesn't the recipe unlock in the research station as soon as you pick up a bit of epoxy? I know I got the recipe fairly early on, then I just grabbed a dust daisy--was lucky enough to get the seed on my first try--planted it, and I was good to go.

The recipe does unlock but the recipe to make Resin does not. The only place to find resin is past the flower.

do you have the fluid distiller?

Yeah. But it wont make resin until you have the Resin blue print. It only makes Oil and fertilizer.

In the current version the Resin recipe unlocks when you pick up a Dust Daisy fruit.

The problem is that as far as I can tell there aren't guaranteed to be 4 harvest-able Dust Daises above the tunnels (1 for the research and 3 for a batch of resin), and there's never a guarantee that you will get seeds, So if you don't make the Virus Analyzer first with the epoxy you find loose, and you can't collect enough ripe Dust Daises, and you don't get a seed from the ones you do find, you have to go to a different tower.

I managed to reset the underdust by leaving the Tower (with Noahs Keycard) for some time ,went to another underdust entrance which I couldnt open. After this the epoxy in der underdust had respawned AND some of the flowers for the resine spawned so that I could reach them without the hypothermia.

Sign that its reset is that I had to creat a new keycard and the chest at the elevator were broken again.

There are usually at least a couple of full stacks of epoxy just scattered around in the areas that are accessible without having to get past any plant blockades. There are also at least two, and usually more dust daisy plants to harvest, each holding three fruits to pick. If you've soft locked yourself because of epoxy then it's because you've pissed away all your epoxy researching/making things other than what you need to make in order to secure an infinite supply of resin/epoxy.

in his defense, epoxy used to be somewhat easier to get. you could get several at greenhouses.

does research not do that?

I'm aware of that, but it's still easy to get an infinite supply of resin/epoxy going. It's just not the gating scenario he's trying to make it out to be.

You cant make resin until you get the blueprint for resin. The only place that resin is available is past the Hypothermia flower. There are no other places to get it. So crafting Epoxy is literally impossible prior to passing the hypothermia plant. Epoxy is required to research and craft the Virus Analyzer thing and if you use your epoxy on any of the other thousands of projects that call for it before building the virus analyzer, you are soft locked out of progress.

TLDR: The infinite supply of resin/epoxy requires the resin blueprint which is only available past the Hypothermia Flower.
