Can't build walls

I don't have any walls in airship builder.
Do I need to find blueprints?

They will be unlocked in further progression, don't worry.
(unless you already have a quest to build them and they're not there)

I've been playing and it gives me the quest to craft metal walls but I can't even craft any walls. Do I need to discover the recipe? I thought you could craft regular ones from the start. I'm confused.
I can make rooms, cockpit and catwalk and that's all. I have tried clicking on the little white "corner" of the box and nothing happens beyond trying to craft rooms/cockpit/catwalks. Am I missing something?
It would help if it was more intuitive.
