The dude said that it was a demo. Just because you dont like the answer doesnt mean it was disregarded.
We know no one wants the timer. It's all about getting the balance right. We want players to get a good idea of how the world looks, how the game plays etc, but we also need to leave players feeling hungry for more! With a linear game, this is easier to do. But with a sandbox, this becomes a bit trickier!
We have pushed and got an additional 20 minutes in the open world for players, meaning the total length is now 50-60 minutes for a free demo. There is more than enough time there to do everything that is available in this demo. Or hey, use the time to take in the views if you want to go at your own pace. You can always play it a second time :)
Are you talking about me? When? I apologise if it came off that way, but it wouldn't have been my intention <3
If the demo is too open or too long, some people may play it for dozens of hours and get tried of the game before ever purchasing.
If they haven't made it available for Early Access, then it's not anywhere near "ready". They probably want to start selling the game for money; just as much as we want to start playing further.....
However, too many people consider "Early Access" should be "generally bug free and playable"; when really it's not intended to be that way. "Early Access" really means you pay to buy the game early and be a beta tester.... (sometimes at a discounted price compared to final release target price.)
Unfortunately; this turns into some people getting upset when they find bugs/issues/game crashes, and generating negativity because they misunderstood "Early Access".
We have no idea what bugs may exist past the Demo Timer that they are still working to squash. Just because the content within ~40 minutes is pretty refined and stable, doesn't mean any content after that point is functionally playable. Maybe the upgraded blimp is randomly exploding, and they're still trying to fix it ;)
If you have a piece of software you want someone to test, trying to cut ~80% of it away to have only ~20% available for testing is likely to cause a LOT of problems.
Trying to fork a separate version of "reduced demo" game is problematic, especially when you will be needing to update and test both the "demo" and the "real" version of source code. More work = more time & costs,
Just adding a Timer or etc is much easier to manage, and to later remove or disable.
Some linear games use a "thanks for playing, demo ends here" hard stop instead; but that's more problematic in an open world or non-linear game.
Open world either needs to restrict World Generation, Resource Generation, or Exploration Capability. (can't build Mithril Pickaxes if no Mithril spawns in the world) ; but the first two options introduce new problems when there is a version update. (start your game save over to generate a new world , so you can find that Mithril.)
I absolutely prefer limiting "Exploration", if it means being more likely to carry "saves" over between updates.... I say this after starting over from scratch maybe a dozen times in 7DtD throughout the years.
I can understand the developers not wanting to say explicitly why there is a time limit, but we can still make our constructive guesses. :D
1) There's far more "game content" in the demo files than they want people to experience in the demo.
How much of it is in "ready", "playable", "stable", or even "functional" state is anyone's guess. But I bet if you were able to bypass the Timer and played for 10 hours, you would be hitting some sort of significant problems; that the developers aren't ready for players to hit yet.
2) Whatever they use for random world generation is not "ready" past a certain biome zone around the starting area.
If you've never seen an example of RNG World Generation gone bad; trust me, it can go very very wrong. (sudden deep pits, giant sheer cliff walls in the middle of a city, overlapping buildings, or straight up game crashes; I've seen all of those in 7DtD. )
3) A new "health hazard" occurs after a certain period of time ; which we would not be prepared/able to deal with, within the scope of the demo. (or is not yet ready for public testing)
I shudder to think about having to replace our suit's air filters.......
But ok. My time limit is up, so I'll just move onto a different game and time will tell if I ever come back to this one... ;)
No one's lied. You're talking nonsense because you didn't get unlimited play for FREE.
stop, let's count here. from the very beginning it was announced 60 minutes of playing time (in fact 20) the opportunity to explore the world (no opportunity) to study the construction / development of the airship ?? like a ♥♥♥♥♥ if there is no time for development at all ?? lies, lies, and more lies, and for this I spent time downloading and reading ..
