So how do I unlock metal walls?
I've scanned copper, made the turbine. Jump puzzled up to get helium and the computer for railings. Still no walls so I can't place turbines.

Keep looking at POI's in the area. You should get them right around there.

Is it on the lower platform? I presumed I needed the turbines to get to the upper levels as they are just out of reach using normal methods.

It should be reachable with no turbines. So try POI's till you locate them. Should be close by.

Weirdly with 1.0 you have to first build a metal platform. Just 1. Add it to your airship and then you unlock building a wall. The quest tip mentions needing to build it. It took me 10 minutes to realize I was missing that.

That's what happened to me as well, I skipped the step of going to ruined Greenhouse and locked myself out of getting the wall. Wasn't really keen on limping back to that place,
Sadly, tasks sequencing can be easily broken by doing thing out of order. In this case you lose one of the most important building pieces too.
