Black screen with just subtitles
I have a 4090/g-sync 4k monitor & i9-11900K.
I played the demo a while back and had no issues what so ever. However now, when it start a new save I get a black screen with just the subtitles. That's it.

Things I've tried already:
Removing Bitdefender
Uninstalling Wallpaper Engine
My Nvidia panel setting for Vertical Sync is set to off (as per other threads). Although this shouldn't matter due to g-sync.

Any ideas? I am very much looking forward to playing this game :)

Lower your Frame Rate and Quality way down. Lots of people having trouble with the new starting video. Especially if you are running 4k. Once you are in game and past it. Reset your settings for the Frame Rate and Quality. Hope this helps.

I've tried all of the above, including disabling g-sync, setting my monitor refresh rate to 30 to match in game, turning all settings down and in different windowed configurations always at 1080p.

Any other ideas? Or a way to post a bug report,
Cheers

have you tried forcing a different directx version with launch options?

I have the same issue. Disabling v sync, using DX11, all settings to low, no improvement. Intro video is black and I can't play the game. My friend got me this game so I could play with him, but I can't.

Very disappointing.

Same issue for me as well. Weird thing was that I was able to play when the 1.7.0 dropped, but I deleted that game. Since then I have not been able to play the game. Always get the sub-titles but no video. Tried all the same things as OP, no dice. I went back to the 1.6.0 legacy and it worked liked a charm. I believe that one of the small bug fixes caused this issue, but since there is no way to choose which patches to install, this is as far as it goes. Hopefully they will either fix the issue, or at the very least give us the option to skip the new game intro.

New update 12/13/2024 - Not really a fix for the issue, but a way to at least get past the issue. If you install the beta(which does fix the issue) and then start a game, save. Then go into the saved locations and make a copy of saved games, revert back to the main branch, copy saved folder into main branch, launch. So far I have not run into any issues. Not a great solution I will grant you, but at least you can play. I have only tried this in single player, not Co-op

Can you explain in more detail what steps you took?

I tried this, but it says I can't start the 1.6 save game in the updated version due to incompatibility, and the "coop" modes are still grayed out.

It is not the old 1.6.0 legacy beta, but the new one. There is a pinned discussion at the top of the discussion board "https://steamcommunity.com/app/1641960/discussions/0/3878219197537249801/"
It is the save from that version that you will need to use. The pinned discussion I mentioned show how to join it, with the code.

I tried your advice, no dice. The saves did not appear (I checked and re-checked my appdata and reran multiple times)

I will jump on the beta which does work.

Appreciate the work everyone, much love and sending some big ol' hugs to the Devs for deciding to release an update at this time of year! x

this is a problem on the steam deck as well so i'm glad to see i'm not the only one experiencing this. maybe we'll get a patch for it if we complain enough
Travisse Dec 18, 2024 @ 8:05am
Found from another patch related to black screen that the Black Screen bug was fixed in the latest patch on Main. Have tested an it worked, great help from the Devs
