Now look at connectors part. Some can be a sphere, other can be "empty".
When you place a pipe, if you look at the outline before building it you can see a straight pipe with a sphere on one end. (the other end of what I call "empty").
You need first to make sure you work on a single plane; horizontally or vertically. Now, try to place and connect a pipe to a water tank by rotating it with one thing in mind : You need to have a sphere connect to an empty part (or the other way around). You cannot connect two spheres. It's a one way connection and you cannot decide/change the direction, it's based on each connector (if it's a sphere or not). There is also a minimum and maximum length for each pipe you place.
If you need to change the plane you are building on, for example run a pipe on the ground up to the start of a wall at it's bottom, then place another pipe on said wall to make it connect to the horizontal pipe on the ground.
If you need to cross a wall or floor, you can build another type of connector for that purpose. Place down that connector, while being careful with what side need the sphere, and connect pipe on both end of this connector. It's basically a pipe but you can't decide it's length, since it automatically build the other end for you. If you don't get it, place one in the middle of a wall and look at the other side of said wall.
If you need to have two pipe crossing path, there is a third connector for that. Looks like a cross with 2 spheres and 2 empty end.
On a side note, sprinkler are kinda useless right now because they use water all the time, forcing you to either only put so much water in the tank now and then or manually toggle it off. Unless you want to consuming ridiculous amount of water for plant that don't even need water after they are done growing.
Had hoped the water usage was fixed, by now.
Why can't we just connect the pipes directly to the growbeds and be done with it?
Instead of using large water tank, you should use "small" water tank here - both inward and outward socket on small water tank are on floor level.
Here's the example I just build:
