charged bolts

i can not for the life of me, figure out how to use the charged bolts.
and i read somewhere that i might need an upgraded crossbow that should be in an container near a mantis area, but also cant find that.
can anyone help me ?

Press and hold the C key to change ammo. It's in the UI, but very small.

You do NOT need the upgraded crossbow for the charged bolts.

Hi, thank you for this report! I've seen it mentioned several times now and it means that we should definitely clearly introduce the radial menu in the game.

ahhhhh ok, i just tried pressing c and hovering mouse curser over the ammo type and then releasing c, didnt think to press the ammo type with the mouse button.

Or add a ammo swap hotkey alongside the radial menu. Im certain the radial will do wonders for consoles but a hotkey is very practical for PC.

I still doesn't seem to work for me. I have the crossbow equipped. I have 4 | 13 Normal Bolts in the UI (so loaded 4 Bolts). I see the C icon below telling me "item select". But nothing happens when I press C. Also nothing if I hold it. I also cant move the mouse to the right to select the charged bolt icon that highlight if I mouse of the corresponding target in the environment. Even if I open the inventory and Rightclick the Charged Bolts as it says in the Mouse Over Tooltip for "Use" nothing happens. The Crossbow keeps my 4|13 Normal Bolts...

Also nothing happened when I assigned another key to "item select". I also dont have any idea how produce this radial menu...

Try resetting all settings to default. If it doesnt work, try crafting a new set of bolts… and then try opening the radial menu and make sure you click on what you select. Highlighting doesnt do anything (found this out in the heat of battle). Check files with steam that there isnt anything damaged or corrupted?
If nothing works maybe the save is bugged or some underlying issues. Report it as a possible bug.

a lot of issues like this can be fixed by reloading a save. save the game and quit to title screen and then reload what you just saved.
also when you have the charged bolts in your inventory, equip the crossbow and press the key to activate it. once it deploys press and hold c. use the mouse to click the charged bolt option and it should reload the crossbow to the charged bolts. now i found a possible bug that if you press and hold c without the crossbow active it will bring up the menu still but there will be 3 of each arrow displayed instead of a single icon of the arrow ammo type. selecting one of these does nothing.
the crossbow must be out and on your wrist and ready to fire/use for the c menu to function correctly

For flip sake reloading charged bolts into the crossbow should not be this complicated

Just for you to know. It seems like radial menu has a tendency to fall off at some point and then player need to save-load to use menu again.
