Rotten food needs to be gone.
What u catch is bad enogh to get spoiled by getting rot as well.
Though it's only at the start of the game, they want us to grow crops instead
And Patat gives 30food when cooked while other plants gives other perks.
So when u find the planter, start investigating that option i'd say
Theres also boosters one can use to stay hydrated longer, though as u can only use 2 boosters at any given time one tends to skip that one when out running as oxygene, stamina or immunity is more worth
Regarding pausing when reading.
Not that i've found.
I know Pacific Drive has that option and it would be nice to see that here as well
Later on water is very easy to get and I always carry a large bottle full.
A trick with food is that it does not spoil if it is either on the lure or cooked in the cooker. I keep two cookers with cooked food in them and something on the catcher.
Also, you can eat the rotten food if you cook it first.
I had a feeling it was mostly early game problems. Guessing planters come from the greenhouse towers?
My memory ♥♥♥..
But i belive u will find the small sprinkler, pipes and planters in a "normal" greenhouse that is partial infected..
1 Building should be infected.
U need to enter from below using the Docking Plank on your ship or build a makeshift catwalk out so u can reach the entrance/Broken wall..
Then again u could also scan the Docking Plank there, research it and build it if you dont have it
Enter and kill the plant on 2 diff places and u should be able to loot that building and get the stuff u need.
The Distiller i belive was located at a normal Greenhouse
And large sprinklers at the Infected Greehouse if i dont remember wrong here, but assume someone will point out my errors if so..
Theres also a "Pipe Water Generator" available that makes tons more dity water than the one u got early game and also water tanks u can connect it to so u can stock up on dirty water
Small sprinklers at infected greenhouse, so are pipes.
Large sprinklers in the small infected area at a normal greenhouse(you still need the immune booster for this)
Distiller is behind a lock on normal greenhouse. Iirc on the first layer where the gardens start(above the 2 layers with compartments)
I seem to spend so much time just dealing with making food to handle hunger, and you can't carry a stack as it will all spoil.
It's gotten to the point that it impacts my ability to enjoy just playing.
Now I have large garden plots, one for green colander and another for lobster peppers. This keeps my food and energy up, same water setup for now.
I genuinely don't understand the complaints. The worst my food situation got was when I got Gastrointestinitis and it drained my hunger faster. Energy is my biggest problem, but I plan to have a coffee nut plant soon.
I am well into the game, parked at a suburb entrance and partway into that adventure i went through 7 (SEVEN) lures to grab enough (3) dust moths to cure the photophobia I got from a completely different beasty.
I think the complaints aren't about obtaining the food and water but how fast it drains, which makes you constantly having to eat and drink. It gets really annoying when building, gardening or plain exploring. I got so sick of it, that I just constantly use the "Filler Booster" which does say it only stops your need for water, but it actually also stops your need for food. So for a few minutes you are free to explore or do whatever you want on your ship, without having to constantly munch or gulp.
Make sure you cook everything; food is more nutritious when cooked. Even rotten food can be converted into safe food by cooking (it spoils quickly though, so plan to eat it promptly). The game will lead you to a greenhouse pretty early on (IIRC it's the 3rd location you are prompted to visit), and then as long as you have a scanner you should be able to get 1-2 small plant pots with patats (potatoes) going for easy and reliable food on demand.
