Gardening - feeding sprinklers
I initially set up the following:
  • large tank -> 3 large sprinklers in sequence
  • two water gens -> small tank -> large tank input A
  • two water gens -> small tank -> pipe -> large tank input B
Interesting behavior:
  • When I remove the pipe to input B, and everything feeding input A, the sprinklers keep watering and the large tank stays full. When I monitor it, occasionally I see an offer to fill the tank flash by, followed by "tank full". Perpetual watering :)
    • When I then remove the rest of the equipment that fed input B, the large tank starts draining as expected. Seems the removal of the pipe alone doesn't necessarily break the connection.
  • When I directly connect everything (you have to angle the small tanks to both feed the big tank directly), only one input to the large tank appears to work.
  • When I put a pipe between each of the small tanks to the large tank, both small tanks seem to drain into the large tank as one might expect.
Bottom line seem to be some odd behavior when directly connecting small and large tanks. Directly connecting water gens seems to work OK (other than the gens lower halves graphically overlap). Final working configuration is:
  • large tank -> 3 large sprinklers in sequence
  • two water gens -> small tank -> pipe -> large tank input A
  • two water gens -> small tank -> pipe -> large tank input B
I'll experiment further; lets see if I can put a pair of small tanks and gens feeding the small tank that feeds the big tank :) Bigger better badder (and a bit silly, but that's what stress testing is all about)

I find that the sprinkler, no matter where I put it, does not fill the water or anything while it is running. Is that a bug or am I doing something wrong? The water is coming out and is above the plants/planters.

Also, piping is sooooo frustrating! I could only pipe up 1 large tank that I had inside to a sprinkler. I cannot pipe to anything outside. I hate it. I'm just not going to bother with it at all. Frustrating.

After fighting with the piping system, i finally got a system setup...... It's fairly problematic, but it is a first version....

The piping really needs to be able to angle up or down slightly , since not all roofs and ceilings are the same height.

Corner Rooms have a bordering bar along the ceiling connection - so it's not the same height as a Normal Room's ceiling. That also makes sprinklers lower, so that piping on normal room ceiling often won't connect properly (if at all).

It also seems to drain a full large water tank and generator with new filter incredibly fast. .... I don't know that the sprinkler system is very usable right now, between the setup problems and how fast it uses up the water.

With the current changes in the beta branch, I'm finding the most effective setup is a pair of water gens directly attached to a large water tank (one gen needs to be a touch cockeyed to make that work), then top of large water tank to pipe, to socket, through wall, and then onward along ceiling.

It's too much of a PITA to mess with the idiosyncrasies of the pipes to try anything fancy outside of for testing purposes. <shrug> all part of the early access package :)

I can not figure the water system out :(

I have the large tank that wants dirt water.
But what do i connect it to? How do I get clean water?

I would of thought a big collector outside, Then a pump to a water cleaner inside, then the sprinklers.
Sounds straight forward to me.

Plants want the dirty water, not clean water.

So yes, in theory, the setup is
Water collector > Water Tank > Sprinkler (s).

It's hard to see until you realized what it is, but each water connector has arrows indicating that water goes only one way. Water tanks have connectors on the bottom for water IN, and connector on the top for water OUT.

Sprinklers also have the an IN socket on one side, and an OUT socket on the other - so you can chain sprinklers together..... but it seems to drain water way too fast.

How do you get the pipe to go through the wall though? I've tried every way that I can think of, but no pipe will go through the wall. I put a tank inside and connected it to a sprinkler inside, but I can't connect any of the collectors from outside to the tanks. :-(

There's a separate BETA test branch in steam, where they post new changes. (which may have more bugs...)
One of those new changes is some sort of "pipe connector socket" you put on the wall, then you can connect pipe to the socket sticking out. Basically lets you create a port to pass a pipe through the wall, i think.

But that's only in the BETA test branch, not out for the normal release yet.... give it a week or two

Ah gotcha, thanks so much! :-)

My apologies @Jessicaahall - I should have stated up front this was beta_flight. @Illuminia is correct - there's a socket that allows passage through walls. It's a bit tricky to use as it now stands, but it's early access AND beta branch, so that should be expected.

No worries :-)

I'm just happy to hear that the devs are already working on getting the system to work better :-)

Anyone got video or some vizualization/guide how to connect through the wall??

Isn't it still in testing?

I ahve stopped playing the test branch until they fix the storey line.

I got finished storyline part 2 and wait for part 3 but can't handle with pipie via wall to connect water tank, device for gathering water and sprinkler... but maybe they still test this...

I read that connecting the pipe is a pain.
I found the water pump. But until the fixes come I will leave it all alone.
