Where do yo go to build a big ship?
I was contemplating on my thread regarding a purpose for building a bigger ship and it dawned on me that there is no place to build a bigger ship. Not that I saw. When I made my ship 7-8 rooms long I had a hell of a time doing it because I didn't have enough platform to mount my engines. Then I didn't have enough room to mount my turbines. Had to keep creeping the ship forwards and sideways on the platform.

Not a big deal right now, but eventually there may need to be a port big enough for this.

The largest area you can build on would be the elevator towers for the Underdust.. and I think the greenhouse has a pretty large pad as well?

Our system lets you build your Airship on the fly (literally). You can build them and move things around while in the air. Create temporary catwalks if you really need to.

It might also be worth checking out videos made by a guy called DeLindsay on YT. He has done a whole series on airship building tips.

Finally, yeah there will be larger locations in the future.

English:
As developer FFH_Greg says: Use temporary walkways to build a giant airship.
Since you get ALL the materials back when you dismantle the walkways, there is no loss.
Also, for walkways, only ONE walkway must be connected to the ship. After that, you can build the most complex shapes possible to reach any point on the ship.

Deutsch:

I don't think that model or kind of building works well for everyone. Most of the time I'm building and I am met with "not enough lift" or over carry capacity and in those moments you kinda have to be grounded to fiddle around with adding more balloons if you are maxed on extensions.

Personally I much prefer to be in a huge area because when I usually upgrade my ship I'm doing a lot at once like adding an entire extra floor, or increasing the size to the point where I need a second balloon and since the games building isn't great (you can't just "move" stuff everything has to be deconstructed and put in inventory or emptied first which is such a pain) it's just easier to be on a platform and have more room to see what you're doing.

Okay, if you want to build that big, yes, you need a real shipyard!
That was no longer an option for me after a one-off attempt. I prefer it small and clear.

Okay, wenn Du so groß bauen willst, ja, dann brauchst Du eine richtige Werft!
Das war für mich bisher nach einen einmaligrn Versuch keine Option mehr. Ich hab es da lieber klein und übersichtlich.

I built a large airship at the greenhouse simply because I knew I would be stationary for a long time and that meant having plenty of food and water.

That's why I play this game on easy. The whole thirst/hunger mechanic in these games is annoying. When I get low on stats I just jump into the underdust. Problem solved.

Use catwalks and the dock to move and reach all areas of your vessel. I have one on the front lower section and back lower section so I can position the ramp to reach every part of the ship for painting.
