I was exploring. So, no, I don't think I lost anything. But I had to go all the way back through those twisted catwalks and caverns again to find where I'd left off.
I never personally sweat death in an early access game. 2 of those deaths were straight up bugs. Like falling through a solid floor when the ship was shaking. Some kind of collision bug. I generally say "WTF!!!", then laugh my butt off when these happen, then pick up again where I died.
I think the only other time I've died in this game (I'm playing on Easy, since I always like to see what I'll be up against before I crank the difficulty up), was when I wanted to see if I could actually fall off a platform. It was so easy to stay ON them, I decided to take a jump that was probably too far.... and it was.
As far as oxygen tanks go, they just extend player supply of oxygen, they do not have capacity by themselves. So swapping tanks simply increases max capacity, but does not add any oxygen.
As someone previously mentioned, I'd chalk this up to arguably an early-access whoopsie. I suppose you could, in theory, drop your small oxy tank for whatever reason and need to build a new one. But it does need to be better communicated that the lack of swappability is not a bug but a feature, so to speak.
That is true since it is removable. And, yeah, early access :-) Great game though!!
Ah, it just clicked in my head why. It's removable because you can upgrade it. You could in theory build a new one and upgrade it instead, but it makes more sense, I think, to take your current one and upgrade that instead. But in order to do so, you need to remove it.
Are you perhaps playing on a console and saves don't work?
No, I'm on PC. I had a save that was made at one of the oxygen stations and I died shortly after that. What pissed me off was mostly that I was teleported back to my ship and had to find my way down to where I was. I tried restoring the save with the image of the oxygen station and I was back at my ship. So I tried deleting the most current save, which had an image of my ship and was created when I respawned. I thought maybe the most current save overrode my previous saves. It didn't work. I still ended up back at my ship when I entered the game.
