floor weight - glass vs metal
I was wondering about the weight of glass floor (5 kg) vs metal floor (1 kg). I would have expected the other way round, with glass the lighter one and metal the heavier.

with Walls there's no difference: Metal Wall (5 kg) vs Windowed Wall (5 kg).

The weight system is probably still in balancing mode, but maybe the feedback is helpful

I would assume a couple of potential, if fictional sci-fi reasons. Maybe the glass needs to be thicker to support the weight of things than metal does - I mean, I'd trust the strength of a metal floor over one made of glass. Maybe the "glass" is actually some sort of transparent metal, such as the aluminium oxynitride that has been developed. It's "a see-through ceramic of polycrystalline that is made from a structure of oxygen, nitrogen, and aluminium. This impressive material looks completely see-through and is incredibly strong."

It's not a true metal of course, but it gets nicknamed that because of a reference in the Star Trek IV movie. It's "...four times as hard as fused silica glass, three times harder than steel, and a whopping 85% harder than sapphire" but for structural reasons in the game the weight possibly works out the same as the metal equivalents. Who knows, but it's fun to bounce ideas around. 🙂

Scotty already discovered transparent aluminum. LOL then I read Tachyon's reply.

That was my assumption as well. The glass has to be a lot thicker than the metal to get a similar strength. Maybe this could be included in the item's description.

truth be told, my first thought was "transparent aluminium", when I read glass floor. :D

I hope this was a change that wasn't replicated along items of the same type.
I say this because:
1) the walls have the same weight so game is not adding extra weight on the material to make it as strong.
2) building constraints, while I can understand some people wanting materials have different weight, but being a sci-fi, I think the fun aspect is better, we should allow people to have the same size airship regardless of the visuals.
3) crates and items stored or placed already break all immersion of weight someone might have had
