This or VoidTrain?
I am looking to buy a survival game and for me it's either this or VoidTrain. But is this a better option than VoidTrain? Which one do you consider better?> I just want to buy one of them, they are both in Early Access..

At the moment it would have to be this one. For me Void train falls flat on immersion and feels as if they have had a idea for a game that didn't work out.

I got VoidTrain instead of this, I already played for a bit and I loved what I saw. I want more of a chill game and from what I saw Forever Skies needs a lot more micromanagement.

you choose wrong if "micromanagement" is an issue Void train is 500% worst when it comes to it... plus 1200% worst when it comes grind 98% of that game entire content is just grind Lol

not even sure why you bothered asking us what game to get 95% of us said this game over voidtrain but you got VT anyways Lol seems to me you were already going to get VT regardless

^^ It's early access, and it depends on how long ago you played Voidtrain. It's an entirely different game now from when it launched.

This is one of the main purposes of Early Access, so Developers can see what's working and what isn't, and fix the stuff that isn't working. In that regard, the Voidtrain Dev's have been doing a great job of taking on feedback from the playerbase. I'm sure Forever Skies will do the same.

I mean I like to base a lot of my purchases off reviews.. I wouldn't even buy a game with mixed reviews personally.. lol. So I'd go with the one that has a better user score. I mean sure it might have more content but what does that matter if it's not good?

Why is that bad?

Dude is from Ukraine. I actually can't really blame him for being a lil spicy against anything russian, despite it really not being the devs fault about political stuff.

Anyway... yeah~

I will tell you why. Despite being on the discussions of this game's forum, no one specifically said it's an amazing game, a lot of people said it barely has 10 hours of content. So that's why I went with VoidTrain. But that doesn't mean I will keep it. I might refund it, I played for 20 minutes and I am still on the fence.

I respect that. I don't.. reviews are usually EXTREMELY BIASED and I had a lot of overwhelmingly positive games that are not for me. Take JEDI Survivor, it has pretty bad reviews on Steam but for me it worked well and I didn't have any major issues, I finished and loved the game. And it has Mixed reviews, which based on your criteria you wouldn't even touch. I even have Redfall and I like the game, aside from some performance issues. So yeah, I check reviews, but I want to see objective reviews that show both pros and cons for the game. A lot of the Steam reviews are negative because "I didn't like it", which doesn't help me at all.

I would have to avoid most survival games because these tend to have Mixed reviews all around, there are some rare ones that might have positive or even very positive reviews. Eh as I said I am still thinking if Voidtrain was worth it, I will play an hour more and decide if I will refund it. The idea seems fine, and all I want is more of a chill survival game, where I can just explore and not worry about micromanagement. I guess all of them have some management to do here and there.

I buy a lot of games that have mixed reviews, you just need to read the positive and negative ones to see what they are actually complementing or complaining about.

A good negative review is worth a hundred memey positive ones because maybe you like the types of things the reviewer didnt? and if they didnt complain about stuff you dont like its probably good for you. Not everyone cares about the same things equally and i've bought more games based off the negative reviews than i have the positive ones. Maybe 90% of the bad reviews are about dodgy optimization/performance issues and you're sitting there with your shiny 4090 thinking "not my problem".

If a games falling into the negative range i'd at least recommend watching a streamer play it first though. Maybe it still fits a niche you enjoy that most dont, or you dont care about the overwhelmingly poor/bad sections of the game (like NMS release).

Not many on Steam will use Forums to praise games, they're here to ask questions and raise issues. The best place for feedback on pro's as well as cons is in the reviews :)

Thank you Greg. The reviews are always very biased and hard to trust. There's no middleground, they either love or hate it. I always prefer testing the game for myself, what I played from VoidTrain I liked, but the full game feels tedious. I do recommend you create a demo for your game too, so undecided people like me will have an idea of what they can expect. Honestly, I will do a financial effort and buy your game too, I just hope it will continue getting new updates and great content.

Absolutely! We have a flight map which you can see for what will be added to the game. We did have a demo at the end of last year, but it was removed as it no longer reflected the EA experience.

We will certainly look to create a new one :)

thats entirely fair but your best bet is properly looking at some of the reviews (both negative and positive) and read the comments (sometimes people flat out lie in reviews and a bunch of people will call them out on it in the review so if something seems fish about the review ignore it) as for saying the game is amazing ....

I personally wouldn't say it is. neither of them are, neither of them are inventing the wheel so to speak they both boil down to "survival" build/craft games which is a dim a dozen and very generic/over saturated market nowadays but they are still good games for what they are i just personally prefer this one more simple because 10000% less grind any game that uses grind to claim the game has 20+ hours of content is just a BIG NO for me grind =/= content IMHO so ya for example VT has more content but 20 hours of that "content" is literally just grinding for grinding sake it more realistic to say its probably about a 6 hour game tops if you remove the unnecessary grind. as for Forever Skys can't say yet because we only have the prologue basically at the moment since it just literally reach EA a few days ago (VT has been out for years now)

BUT the bigger factor in why i picked this is because its open world (go wherever you want) VT train is literally a game on rails you go excatly where the game tells you 2 and do exactly what the game tells you too and you as the player has no choice at all in it whereas in this game i can just say "nah don't wanna do the quest, I';mm just fly south and finishes all my research and gain billions of mats of everything and just chill building a massive zeppelin" you don;'t have that option in VT you literally have to do the quests to unlock new mats

Void Train conceptually seemed great. But it got really wacky and non-sensial. That ontop of the absolutely broken idea that the stack sizes are globally locked to 10 killed that game off for my group.

It has received very limited updates since release.

Forever Skies feels similer but already has more content right off the bat. It is extremely similer in feel tho in terms of the resources, sounds and procedural nature. Being similer in sound is also NOT a positive. Forever Skies needs an audio engineer to give it a pass and is heavily relying on stock unity sounds.

It was stacks of 5 on release, required more materials to craft components and gave half as many products per craft cycle. There's been a lot of updates since release focused on rebalancing the core mechanics for crafting and exploration, the main story got completely overhauled (but is still a bit limited).

The stack sizes work because you dont need much of anything to craft anything. Larger stack sizes means you actually need stacks that large to do stuff (like this game).

The most recent update further streamlined production along side a bunch of bug fixes and overhauled research.

Objectively Forever skies has about 1/3 the content of Voidtrain whether you're going by playtime or actual content. Maybe less if you want to dive into base building components. That's not a criticism of Forever Skies, it just released and Voidtrain has been in EA over a year now. But to say FS has more content is just white knighting and not helping anyone. How you value that content is subjective, but it is there.

That's hilarious calling me a white knight, esp considering how much critisim I've given Forever Skies thus far. Reddit buzzwords are great arnt they? It let's you dismiss people without much effort, now you've filed me in your head as such and can hand wavium anything further I say as "comments from a white knight".

Ironic considering your white knighting for void train right now :papyrus:

Not gonna split hairs with you here tho, you can believe that Void Train has more content. The truth is they are on par and VT has been an abject failure for numerous reasons.
