I have all the graphics set to medium, it originally went to epic, but because of past experiences with games and laptops overheating, I erred on the side of caution and changed it to medium. The game still looks amazingly beautiful, so I do not think my experience is lacking due to the quality of graphics.
Lag experiences -
Above the dust, I have pretty much no lag. Maybe once in a while, but honestly it is like a small blip. Not anything to complain about. During the rain, I don't have lag which really surprised me as most of my early access (and some released) games have lag, sometimes really bad, during rain.
When going down under the dust, I do have bad lag. Not slideshow bad though, but pretty noticeable. It calms down once I get down there and the elevator opens. Throughout the underdust it does not run as smooth as above, but it is not unplayable at all. One thing I did notice though is that the more I go down to the underdust the lag is less noticeable.
I am not saying everyone's experience is the same as mine, but I just figured that I would post my experience and specs. I feel like the more people that do so will give the devs more data to work from (I did email them all of this info too).
Let me know if that works before Continuing.
Hi, I do plan on doing that tomorrow, it is time for bed now :-) So tired. I honestly think I had to do this exact thing a while ago for another game I was playing. But I really don't remember, it was so long ago. The lag doesn't really bother me, it is early access so it just is something that happens. In all honesty, this game runs much better than most of the early access games out there. :-)

Because leaving it till the last minute means things that would have been easy to fix now become core critical systems that can't be changed later on without redoing everything thats built on top of them.
Optimization work should be running in parallel to development (which will be the case here anyway) otherwise you can end up with an unstable mess and lose large chunks of work that needs to be completely redone. The presence of optimization issues doesnt mean the absence of work on it.
There is a difference between true/full optimization and making the game playable.
I had a hell of a time getting above 7fps and I don't have a weak rig, it was so bad that I almost thought about getting a refund.
Just hope devs put this in the top of the priority list. I did clear the game.
My experience was overal good regarding optimization, by good I mean ok. Except for few places that does a lag spike for some reason. Specifically at the tower with the elevator at the top entrance when the elevator is turn on.
Whatever it is, it makes a drop on FPS so whenever I enter the area my FPS is set to low, getting out of the area FPS goes normal. But that area is set to a low FPS.
And loss of FPS like this is definitely a performance issue by the game. It could be a conflict due to the placement of thing in the scenario, well it could be anything really.
Maybe when the elevator is turned on the game tries to load everything down there. Though when I get to the bottom FPS is recovery, so if that is a problem something is working correctly when the elevator gets down unloading the top area, but when at the top it loads everything when it should maintain only the top area loaded and load the bottom part only when you get there.
Just throwing some idea, like I said could be anything. Just hope this game fix all the performance issue or upgrade it to have the best performance possible.
Erm, no. You do work in sections. What you suggest implies spreading workload across multiple instances, at the same time. So instead on working on one thing and then another and then the next, devs will have to jump from one thing to another, without really finishing anything. Resulting in a complete mess from every aspect.
