This is the second time I've seen this from a player here. Thanks for reporting, the team are aware.
Its a low priority bug as its not going to break the game anytime soon, but we should 100% look into this when possible
Puting a Sunmelon into the virus extractor is not really about finding a cure, it's about finding all the potential cures (if you haven't) and enable you to use the virus in a different way.
I guess the quest text should change to reflect this.
PS: It's actually a pretty useful use that saves time.
You cant cure it and complete the quest by eating something you've captured, it still requires you to eat a melon. Thats what OP is talking about.
One is the eat the Sunmelon and eat something that works as an antidote (the quest on the start) another is discovering details about the virus and its behaviour (late game). You can't complete the 1st one without being contaminated and cured.
The question is, should the game consider it clear once you unlock details of the virus?
If so, make it clear the quest, if not, force the player to get contaminated and cured (which it sounds like what is happening).
We can argument it doesn't make sense to force the player to get contaminated if he knows the virus details... but we can use the same argument on the start and not eat contaminated food.
Requiring you to eat a raw Sunmelon then proceed to eat something to fight it was the quest.
Unless you mean it skips a step on the quest, like thinking you ate a raw Sunmelon while you didn't and telling you to cure the virus where u're not even contaminated.
Thats the point Im making, which is why i told the OP its a bug, or more specifically, a flaw in the quests logic.
The player shouldnt have to eat the melon when discovering the virus in the late game. Thats the step that needs removing.
It sounds like we're talking about the same thing haha :)
