With 4 Pads, this could give us the option of building different Airships on the same save. We could maybe even Lease 1 or more of them out to NPC's to go and scavenge for resources.
Then they could add NPC 'Hubs' dotted around the Map (not certain how that'd work with Procedural generation) that we could set up Trade routes with. Could add an entirely new gameplay loop to the game.
PUT THAT IN SUGGESTIONS!
that idea is awesome!

AWESOME
BUT - I would like to be able to place storage and basic survival stuff on platforms (cooker, water filtration, fishing pole) for nothing else so I can get myself organized and/or strip my ship down to barebones and rebuild it the way I want with all my inventory out of the way.
This might get solved when/if they make more things stack in higher numbers or make storage moveable while still full (with a movement penalty or something while it's in your arms) - but right now, it's definitely a slog shuffling everything around.
you are a nomad on a flying base, it makes no sense to suddenly turn you into a mayor.
nevermind the problems with procedural generation, it would twist the game into something that it is not.
While we are at it why not add tower defense and a racing track in the game.
It's procedural, the platforms as they currently exist go on essentially forever.. at least that's my understanding.
For what its worth, No Man's Sky had no intention of base building either when it released, so never say never, but its not on the roadmap to 1.0. Depending how successful the game is maybe its something they'll consider post release as an update or DLC, or perhaps it'd be a new game entirely.
