Horrible Map Design
I replayed the game a second time and as I go through these maps a second time I realize how ugly they are. Everything is clunky and irremarkable. A few of these maps are a chore to go through.

I've 100%'d the game, beat it 4 times, I started an SL1 run yesterday.

The only map I'd consider Bad with a capital B is the Arche Abbey. Everything else is just fine. Looks great, not too confusing, loops back on itself multiple times (though I normally don't use the shortcuts).

Shouldn't a run down, collapsed city that terraforms feel 'clunky' or am I missing something here? Should have expected a clean walk in the park? :cuphead:

OP is correct, map design is easily LoP's worst aspect.

Still an amazing game and my GOTY for last year. But I wish they had somebody competent designing the levels.

I'd say the last third of the game is the absolute worst to get through during the first play through. Confusing layouts mixed in with enemies that can knock out half your health with one attack. Still a great game

Feeling the same way on my first playthrough. Honestly a lot of this game feels like a chore.

I really love the environments in this game. Some of the "platforming" parts are very irritating, but aside from that, almost the whole game gives me intense Bloodborne vibes.

Clunky? If anything, I think the maps are too neat and orderly. Like, aside for a couple areas, all the debris and destruction only create roadblocks, not natural bridges or weird obstacles...

Oh, and the more circuitous environments are kinda samey. Let's take the Lorenzini Arcade: a few more carpet/wall patterns, a couple unique rooms with weird furniture pieces, maybe some utility items to differentiate the underground segments more easily... That'd take an 'ok' area and make it great.

While the map design isn't outstanding, it's not bad, either. You get to fight each enemy type in a variety of combinations and environments, and the shape and side of an area impacts how you approach fights. You get plenty of vantage points to look out on the rest of the stage and orient yourself... And the game doesn't waste your time with dead-ends; longer side paths tend to loop back to the main quickly.

Even the Abbey, which is the worst level for me, isn't outright bad.

WTF is ur problem here ???
Its no open world game like ER (fortunately)...just a classic soulslike linear "go through" map design
