How do exactly weapon upgrades work?

I finally found a weapon i'd like to upgrade ( booster Glaive) but i'm a bit confused about how upgrades work since you can exchange and mix blades and handles.

For example, If i upgrade the original booster Glaive will it only upgrade the blade or will it upgrade both blade and handle? if i wanna switch the blade should i just wait to get a better blade for it?

Handles cannot be upgraded. All your Moonstones go into improving Blades. Meaning, if you switch a Handle on an already upgraded Blade, these upgrades will remain, and vice versa.

Blade dictates the damage and reach, handle dictates the move set and attack speed. Of course if you put a heavy blade on a fast handle, its gonna swing slower.

The only thing you upgrade is the blade which makes the damage go up.

I see, so i should just wait for a better blade and then upgrade that

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Upgrade the one you have now that you like, and if you find something better you can mix and match, or just replace entirely.

You have more than enough upgrade materials in the world + vendors :)
